Description

The Peabody Preparatory seeks an individual to assist the guitar department chair with logistical tasks related to the Suzuki and youth guitar programs. The ideal candidate possesses excellent teaching, organizational, and interpersonal skills with children and adults.

DUTIES

Faculty:

-In consultation with the department chair, create and maintain handbook for Suzuki guitar faculty.

-Assist department chair to create professional development opportunities for faculty.

-Assist with new faculty searches as needed.

-Assist faculty with Suzuki student group class and youth ensemble placements.

Curriculum and Teaching

-Teach Suzuki guitar lessons and/or group classes within the department.

-Plan yearly community performance for Suzuki/youth guitar classes.

-Plan Peabody Youth Guitar Week with dept. chair.

-Plan Youth Track for Fret Fest with dept. chair.

-In consultation with the department chair, create jury technique requirements for Pre-Twinkle through Level 5 students.

-Manage and release asynchronous Pre-Twinkle resources for families and teachers.

Students and Families

-Communicate with Suzuki guitar parents regarding event dates.

-Work with department chair to coordinate the recruitment and retention of Suzuki Guitar students including recruitment events, auditions, placements, and parent education.

-Maintain and distribute necessary group class and Pre-Twinkle educational materials to all campuses, including Tuned-In locations.

-Create and maintain Pre-Twinkle binders for families.

-Manage and maintain fractional guitar inventory.

Budget

-Under supervision of guitar department chair, assist with budgets for youth guitar related events and departmental materials.

Administration

-With department chair, create and manage Suzuki guitar and youth ensemble calendar. Online calendar will include class schedules, recital schedule, Fret Fest, guest schedule, etc.

-Coordinate Pre-Twinkle classes, Suzuki group classes, and youth guitar ensemble classes in ASAP, the Preparatory’s online registration system.

-Work with department chair and the Preparatory education manager to coordinate youth recitals and events.

-Assist department chair with assigning faculty to teach youth guitar classes.

Reports to: Chair of Guitar

Qualifications

-Bachelor’s degree required, master’s degree or higher preferred.

-Suzuki guitar training book 1 required.

-10 or more years’ experience teaching guitar to children at a community music school, with at least 5 years of that as a Suzuki guitar instructor.

-Suzuki guitar group class teaching experience.

-Candidate should have strong administrative experience and be committed to mentoring new faculty and teaching students of all ages with a broad range of abilities and backgrounds in group class settings.

-Previous experience organizing music festivals.

-Excellent communication, conflict resolution, and problem-solving skills.

- Candidate should possess a high comfort level with technology, ideally with extensive experience with Microsoft Office Suite products, music notation software, and recording.

During the Influenza ("the flu") season, as a condition of employment, The Johns Hopkins Institutions require all employees who provide ongoing services to patients or work in patient care or clinical care areas to have an annual influenza vaccination or possess an approved medical or religious exception. Failure to meet this requirement may result in termination of employment.

The pre-employment physical for positions in clinical areas, laboratories, working with research subjects, or involving community contact requires documentation of immune status against Rubella (German measles), Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, Varicella (chickenpox), Hepatitis B and documentation of having received the Tdap (Tetanus, diphtheria, pertussis) vaccination. This may include documentation of having two (2) MMR vaccines; two (2) Varicella vaccines; or antibody status to these diseases from laboratory testing. Blood tests for immunities to these diseases are ordinarily included in the pre-employment physical exam except for those employees who provide results of blood tests or immunization documentation from their own health care providers. Any vaccinations required for these diseases will be given at no cost in our Occupational Health office.
