Reporting to the Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs, the SBS Dean provides academic and administrative leadership to the College's 10 departments and two schools: Anthropology, Child Development, School of Criminology & Criminal Justice, Economics, Ethnic Studies, Geography and Environmental Studies, History, Political Science, Psychology, School of Social Work, Sociology, and Aerospace Studies & Military Science (ROTC). Additionally, the College maintains a number of Research Centers and Institutes with each of them focusing on leveraging faculty, staff, and student expertise for the benefit of the region we serve.

Major duties and responsibilities:

Provide academic and administrative leadership to:
  • The College's 10 departments and two schools
  • The College's number of Research Centers and Institutes
  • Matters related to strategic planning, policy development and personnel and budget management

Commitment to excellence in teaching, research and service, as well as student achievement and faculty development.

Dedication to shared governance and understanding of the collective bargaining environment.

Understanding of and appreciation for the diverse disciplines within the college, as well as for the mission of urban-minority-serving institutions. Commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion.

Responsible for the College's institutional advancement and fundraising activities.

Minimum Qualifications: Required Education and Experience
  • Candidates should have an earned doctorate and be eligible for a faculty appointment at the rank of Professor with tenure in one of the College's departments or schools.
  • Minimum of five years of progressive administrative experience

Compensation and Benefits:

Anticipated Hiring Range: $9,167 - $16,750 per month

Classification Salary Range: $9,167 - $29,425 per month

The CSU system provides a comprehensive benefit package that includes medical, dental and vision plans, membership in the California Public Employees Retirement System (CalPERS), sick and vacation time, and 14 paid holidays a year. Position Information:

Work status: Full-time/Exempt/At-Will

Schedule: Monday - Friday, 8:00am - 5:00pm, some nights and weekends

This is a full-time management (MPP) position. MPP employees serve at the pleasure of the campus President. MPPs do not serve a probationary period and never receive permanent status.

This position is a "designated position" in the California State University's Conflict of Interest Code. The successful candidate accepting this position is required to file Conflict of Interest forms subject to the regulations of the Fair Political Practices Commission.

Background Check

Satisfactory completion of a background check (including a criminal records check) is required for employment. CSU will make a conditional offer of employment, which may be rescinded if the background check reveals disqualifying information, and/or it is discovered that the candidate knowingly withheld or falsified information. Failure to satisfactorily complete the background check may affect the continued employment of a current CSU employee who was conditionally offered the position.
