Managing Director, Idaho Water Resources Research Institute

Position Summary:
The Managing Director of the Idaho Water Resources Research Institute (IWRRI) will be responsible for leadership, revitalization, and expansion of the institute. The Managing Director is a new position and will be the chief executive of IWRRI. Primary roles for the Managing Director will be to develop and implement new plans for IWRRI to develop a useful, pertinent stakeholder network, identify opportunities for impactful research and outreach activities, lead and grow organizational capability at University of Idaho and other Idaho universities, and secure external resources to support impactful activities by, and growth of, IWRRI. This position is an executive staff leadership position, not a faculty position.
Minimum Qualifications:
Graduate degree in a field related to water resources (sciences, engineering, social sciences, humanities, or professional degree acceptable).
- Program development in a water resource field.
- Experience in one or more areas of water resources, policy, law, business, science, or engineering.
- Developing and implementing strategic plans.
- Working in research and research teams on water resource issues or related fields.
- Participating in collaborative sponsored research projects.
- Establishing and maintaining working relationships with students, faculty, staff, administrators, and public, private, and governmental offices and agencies.
- Supervising staff.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Significant leadership experience gained in a non-academic setting (e.g. industry).
- Significant experience with university research.
- Knowledge of water resource issues in Idaho and surrounding region.
- Strong political acumen.
- Doctoral degree in field related to water resources.
- Outstanding communications skills. Excellent demonstrated written/verbal communication and interpersonal skills.
- Self-motivated, team-oriented attitude.
- Outstanding leadership experience and qualities.
- Ability to think clearly under pressure.
- Ability to work with diverse groups of people.
- Excellent team builder and relationship builder with demonstrated experience building impactful cross-disciplinary team.
