Assistant Professor Exercise Fitness Management-KINES

Position Overview:

Teaches, advises and mentors students, evaluates student performance, and maintains department and student records in accordance with university policies. Adheres to the educational philosophy of the university. Works in a collaborative manner with colleagues and professional peers. Participates in university meetings that relate specifically to faculty. Serves on department, college, and university committees as requested. Prepares departmental reports as requested. Engages in teaching, service, and scholarly and/or creative activities as defined by the tenure and promotion policy in the UCO Employee and Faculty Handbook. Faculty are expected to support & facilitate the department/school/college academic and university missions, visions, & long-term goals.

College/Department Overview:

The College of Education and Professional Studies currently has 100 full-time and over 100 part-time faculty organized in seven departments. The college offers 23 undergraduate majors and 28 graduate majors. All teacher education programs are CAEP accredited. Other programs are recognized at the state and national levels with accreditations by the American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM), the American Dietetic Association (ADA), the American Speech-Language Hearing Association (ASHA), the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC), the National Council on Family Relations (NCFR), and the Oklahoma Educational Quality and Accountability Commission (OEQA). UCO's College of Education and Professional Studies has an enrollment of nearly 4,800 students, about one-fourth of whom are graduate students. The Dr. Virginia Peters Department of Kinesiology and Health Studies has four undergraduate programs: Public Health, Physical Education, Exercise Fitness Management and Outdoor Community Recreation and three graduate programs: Athletic Training, Master of Public Health and Wellness Management emphasis in Exercise Science.

Department Specific Essential Job Functions :

Demonstrated ability to effectively teach in a higher education setting. Ability and willingness to engage students in undergraduate and graduate research inside or outside of a formal class setting. Participate in scholarly productivity in exercise science. The successful candidate will teach graduate and undergraduate courses in the area of exercise science. The teaching load is 12 credit hours for the semester, evaluate student performance, and maintain department records in accordance with university and accreditation policies. Also, the successful candidate will adhere to the educational philosophy of the university, and work in a collaborative manner with colleagues, members of professional organizations, and community leaders in the field. Excellence in teaching, field supervision and demonstrated and/or potential for scholarly activity is requested.

Experience Required:

A candidate for promotion to the rank of professor must meet the following minimum criteria: An earned doctorate degree (or other terminal degree) awarded by a regionally accredited or internationally recognized institution in the field specified in the position announcement (exceptions require Academic Affairs approval). Higher education teaching experience is required.
