DIRECTOR ASSESSMENT & EVALUATION
MALCOLM X COLLEGE


Reporting to a Vice President, theDirector of Assessment and Evaluationis responsible for developing and maintaining a framework to guide the implementation and management of a system of academic assessment for Malcolm X College’s academic programs

TheDirector of Assessment and Evaluationexercises leadership in creating and sustaining a culture of assessment within the college, establishing measures of accountability over work products, and working collaboratively with faculty and administrators to implement college, co- curricular, general education, programmatic and course-level assessment plans that effectively measures student learning outcomes, supports the college’s continuous improvement efforts, and provides the data support needed to meet regional and specialized accreditation standards and requirements of academic programs. Performs related duties as required.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
  • Serves as a consultant and subject matter expert, working with faculty and academic administrators to design and maintain an integrated assessment system to evaluate measurable student learning outcomes at the course, program and institutional/college level.
  • Provides leadership in developing processes, procedures, and measurement tools to define and develop meaningful learning outcomes, select meaningful assessment data, and utilize results to help faculty improve teaching and student learning.
  • Works with college leadership in developing guidelines related to program evaluation, program review, learning objectives, outcomes assessment and institutional effectiveness.
  • Assists faculty and academic administrators during the program assessment process, providing guidance on identifying assessment instruments, completing qualitative and quantitative data analysis, and ways to use assessment results for continuous improvement of academic quality.
  • Supports Accreditation and Compliance in assessment activities needed to meet standards and reporting requirements of accrediting and licensing bodies, including data management, evidence and artifacts collection, and data support on compliance requests and site visits.
  • Facilitates the coordination of college, co-curricular, and program level assessment activities to ensure alignment with institutional and accreditation expectations with respect to student learning.
  • Works collaboratively with the Office of Decision Support and Research and Planning to design and implement methods relevant to data collection and analysis, data management, and reporting and use of assessment results.
  • Manages the college’s calendar of assessment. Implements a schedule and cycle for collecting and reporting student learning assessment data and ensure alignment with program review to ensure the ongoing assessment of learning outcomes and the review and use of assessment data to improve teaching and learning.
  • Works with faculty to provide guidance on determining program level outcomes and objectives, mapping objectives at the course level, and determining appropriate assessments for each objective.
  • Works with faculty to ensure that all program documentation is current, consistent, and accessible for all assessed courses.
  • Supports the curriculum development process in forming appropriate course and program learning outcomes, major concepts, and assessment methods.
  • Provides for and delivers professional development opportunities (i.e. workshops, seminars, conferences) to faculty and staff relevant to the college’s academic assessment initiatives.
  • Promotes best practices in curriculum-embedded, performance-based, assessment of student learning, reporting assessment results, and using results to foster continuous improvement of academic quality.
  • Cultivates and maintains cross-functional working relationships to strengthen role of managing, collecting, and organizing student learning outcome data to facilitate analysis, access, and use by faculty. Liaises with the, Manager of Accreditation and Compliance, Director of Strategic Initiatives, Assistant Director of Research and Planning, Deans and other key stakeholders.
QUALIFICATIONS:

Education, Training and Experience
  • Master’s degree from an accredited college or university in Education, Social Sciences, Assessment/Evaluation, Educational Research or a closely related field
  • Three years of work experience in educational research and outcomes assessment
  • Demonstrated experience with quantitative and qualitative methods in designing and conducting assessments of student learning outcomes in higher education
  • Demonstrated leadership skills to create an environment in which assessment is embraced and outcomes inform initiatives
  • Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
Knowledge, Skills and Ability
  • Knowledge of institutional assessment management practices, and student learning outcomes assessment principles and methods
  • Knowledge of qualitative and quantitative methods and practices to assess student learning
  • Knowledge of curriculum development, program assessment, and program evaluation
  • Knowledge of higher education accreditation and certification processes preferred
  • Knowledge and understanding in using assessment management systems
  • Knowledge of curriculum mapping
  • Strong written, presentation, and verbal communication skills
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work in a consultative role
  • Skill in developing and implementing assessment strategies
  • Strong organizational and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to analyze quantitative and qualitative data and present results in a clear format
  • Ability to use statistical and assessment software programs (e.g., Excel, SAS, Tableau, LiveText, etc.)
  • Ability to maintain working relationships with diverse staff of faculty and administrators
  • Ability to provide faculty support and training in areas of curriculum and assessment
Working Conditions/ Physical Requirements
  • Work is performed within an office environment with no exposure to hazardous or unpleasant climate conditions. Physical demands are usually limited to sitting or standing in one location. Some stooping, lifting or carrying objects of light weight required in normal performance of functions. Use of personal computers and related office technologies to successfully perform the functions of the job required.
