Position Purpose

The Director of Culture and Employee Belonging serves as a subject matter expert in the Division of Campus Services on initiatives related to culture, diversity, equity and inclusive community building for staff. This position is responsible for leading divisional and departmental diversity activities, leading initiatives to support a sense of belonging for all members of the Campus Services staff. The position measures initiatives related to employee belonging and workplace climate. The position will work closely with the Office of Institutional Diversity & Equity ( IDE ) to align institutional initiatives with Campus Services’ divisional initiatives to promote innovative approaches to institutional diversity, equity, and inclusion across campus.

Required Qualifications - Education and Yrs Exp

Masters plus 2-3 years' experience or equivalent combination of education and experience

Required Qualifications - Skills, Knowledge and Abilities
  • Masters or equivalent advanced degree, or equivalent education and experience
  • 5-7 years of experience in project planning, management and community building
  • Demonstrated experience with developing, implementing and assessing diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives
  • Demonstrated knowledge of structures and systems within higher education
  • Excellent judgment with the ability to manage highly sensitive, confidential data and information
  • Demonstrated ability to develop relationships and collaborate with groups and organizations representing diverse constituencies from federally protected classes
  • Experience gathering data to inform practice.
  • Strong interpersonal and verbal communications skills as well as proficiency in written communication with the ability to effectively convey complex information to a wide array of audiences
  • Ability to manage multiple, competing priorities and meet deadlines while working in a rapidly changing complex organization
  • Proven ability to work independently under minimal supervision
  • Strong integrity, flexibility, and ability to adapt
Preferred Qualifications
  • Seven-plus years of relevant experience
  • Experience leading institutional initiatives in a Higher Ed institution

Description

Program Development and Implementation
  • Responsible for coordination of DEI curriculum development either internally or using an outside consultant. Ability to assess and measure the effectiveness of the Diversity, Equity and Inclusion initiatives within the division. The Director will create or find new DEI training opportunities for the Campus Services community (union and non-union staff) utilizing data from the survey results, listening sessions and other DEI related initiatives.

DEI Leadership
  • In consultation with IDE and Campus Services leadership, leads the development, implementation, and assessment of a divisional strategic plan for diversity, equity and inclusion.
  • Using data and literature on best practices in the field, the Director designs, conducts, and assesses training on topics related to diversity, equity, inclusion and belonging.
  • The Director will also serve as a subject matter expert in inclusive practices and community engagement including developing and analyzing departmental climate surveys.
  • Serves as the primary liaison between the office of IDE and Campus Services.
  • The Director will serve as a thought-partner and propose actions to the leadership team. This person will also review and help develop DEI departmental plans and assess their alignment with institutional priorities.
  • The Director will also serve on Institutional committees related to diversity, equity and inclusion and related efforts.

  • Assists employees with their career path and goal development and monitors completion.
  • Monitors daily how DEI work is directly affecting culture and gauge employees overall inclusion. Reporting out monthly.
  • Implements new or enhance existing staff recognition and reward programs.
  • Participates in the coaching, counseling and advising management and staff ensuring resolution to DEI related matters.
  • Runs established Campus Services DEI Council to ensure sustainability and employee contribution.
  • Develops and implements an inclusion roadmap for the Campus Services Division.
  • Monitors DEI core values, principles and mission to ensure continued alignment.
  • Partners with HR Admin Services to triage HR related employee needs and HR training programs for growth and development.
