Position Purpose

Dartmouth Cancer Center ( DCC ) at Dartmouth Health in Lebanon, NH is seeking a highly motivated individual to serve as a Data Manager in our Office of Community Outreach and Engagement ( COE ).
The purpose of this position is to manage several National Cancer Institute ( NCI )-funded health education projects enrolling participants, residing in NH and VT. The studies are mainly conducted online. The Data Manager will oversee and manage all data aspects of the study.
Working closely with other team members, the Data Manager will ensure that projects’ research recruitment and completion goals are met. Working with team members, will complete quarterly data reporting of the studies to NCI .

Depending on time needed for data work, the successful candidate will also conduct coordination tasks relating to projects that address disparities in cancer burden in the cancer center’s catchment area, e.g. radon testing, lung cancer screening, clinical trials recruitment, etc.

The candidate will have a high level of judgment, problem solving capabilities, and be able to work independently and resolve complex data issues. The ability to delve into data at both micro and macro scales to determine quality and interpret and present results is key.

Required Qualifications - Education and Yrs Exp

Masters plus 6 or more years' experience or equivalent combination of education and experience

Required Qualifications - Skills, Knowledge and Abilities
  • Master’s Degree and 10 years of work experience in public health, healthcare administration, human services, or other relevant fields; or the equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Extensive experience with clinical research.
  • Demonstrated excellent data management skills.
  • Technical expertise with data software packages – Qualtrics, REDCap, R, and Excel for designing surveys, data collection, data analysis and reporting. Ability to exercise high level of judgment, independent thinking, and decision making to resolve project challenges.
  • Demonstrated experience with clinical trials software such as OnCore.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills including writing and submitting IRB materials.
  • Experience in scientific writing, grant writing/report, and publications.
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to respond/act appropriately to pressures and deadlines.
  • Effective planner with the ability to coordinate multiple activities simultaneously.
  • Ability to interact with others with tact and diplomacy.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and to appropriately handle sensitive information or documentation.
  • Valid driver’s license required and the ability to pass Dartmouth’s driving course.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Master’s Degree and 15-20 years of work experience in public health, healthcare administration, human services, or other relevant fields; or the equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Knowledge and significant experience in clinical research preferred.

Additional Instructions

This position is supported by our portfolio of funded projects. The position is 50% time with the possibility of additional time depending on the availability of funding. This term position is scheduled to end June 30, 2024. Continuation is contingent on funds available in support of that work.

Key Accountabilities

Description

The successful candidate will be responsible for developing and managing data projects including data design, wrangling and reporting, developing and maintaining surveys using survey management software such as REDCap or Qualtrics, and maintaining and reporting on clinical trials enrollment efforts by using OnCore, a clinical trials management system used at Dartmouth Health. The candidate will problem solve data issues by using Excel and proficiency with pivot tables, complex charts, and advanced formulas. The candidate will prepare and manage submissions to the Institutional Review Board.

Data Management:
  • Study Structure – Critically appraise the design of the study and data structure. Implement operating changes/upgrades as needed within the NCI guidelines. (10%)
  • Survey Management – Design, implement, and manage electronic surveys using survey management tools such as REDCap or Qualtrics. Monitor the effectiveness of surveys and modify them, as needed. Design methods to reduce infiltration of bots in population surveys and write programs to identify bots within survey data (25%)
  • Data Management – Extract, clean and wrangle survey data. Enter and manage participant data in OnCore – a clinical trials management system. Clean and complete quality checks of the Qualtrics, REDCap, and OnCore data. Provide expertise to other team members in the use of REDCap. (25%)
  • Quarterly Data Reporting – Prepare survey data and OnCore data for inclusion in quarterly to the NCI and internal reports. (20%)

Administrative:
  • Recruiting – Working with the team and local recruitment sites, develop successful recruiting strategies. Monitor recruiting activities and progress toward established recruiting goals. (10%)
  • IRB Documents – prepare and monitor IRB submissions. Communicate with the IRB team to resolve matters. (2.5%)
  • Meetings – Attend regular weekly progress and work closely with team members. (2.5%)
