Position Purpose

The Metadata Operations Coordinator supports access to scholarly materials in the Dartmouth Library by managing the cataloging workflows of the Library’s print collections and performing cataloging work as needed. This position creates documentation for departmental workflows and collaborates with staff in other areas of the library to design and implement collection management workflows that maintain the integrity of library metadata.This position will work fully on site for the first 2-3 months of employment and then be eligible to transition to a hybrid schedule.

Required Qualifications - Education and Yrs Exp

Bachelors plus 3-5 years' experience or equivalent combination of education and experience

Required Qualifications - Skills, Knowledge and Abilities

· Bachelor’s degree plus 3 years of relevant library experience or equivalent combination of education and experience
· Demonstrated skill with the operation of library software applications and library systems.
· Ability to perform catalog maintenance functions and batch processing
· Attention to detail and excellent analytical and communication skills
· Ability to work independently and to use critical thinking skills to analyze and solve problems
· Data management skills
· Familiarity with the principles of project management
· Familiarity with MARC21 or other descriptive metadata standards

Preferred Qualifications

· Experience using the ExLibris Alma system
· Experience with project management and workflow management
· Specialized cataloging skills in music or serials
· Reading knowledge of one or more non-English languages
· Experience with writing documentation

Description

Maintains the quality and accuracy of bibliographic records in the library catalog database. Works independently and in consultation with other members of the department to determine the appropriate methods for record creation and correction; uses available data management tools to perform individual and batch updates to library data.
