Job Details
Manhattanville College is seeking an Academic Advisor for Undergraduate Education majors for the School of Education and School of Arts and Sciences. The position reports to the Director of Academic Advising and liaises regularly with the undergraduate SOE faculty.
The Advisor serves as a member of the Academic Advising team, and works alongside Advising staff, faculty, the Registrar, academic support staff, and student life staff to support the College’s efforts to maximize student progress and success. This includes monitoring and reporting on student progress to faculty, student life staff, the Registrar, and the Deans. The Academic Advisor will help students make successful transitions into college and through academic milestones. This advisor will advise undergraduate education majors throughout their entire four-year programs, helping them to understand and complete both their education major requirements as well as the liberal arts requirements for their degrees. This includes:
- evaluating whether students qualify academically to enter and remain in the program; guiding students through the program application and acceptance process; monitoring progress of all students in the program, and advising students accordingly; monitoring that advisees have completed their NYSED certification requirements, and communicating with students about how to apply for NYSED certification; assisting students with their TEACH account and fingerprinting process; working with the Director of Field Placement to identify students who are ready for student teaching placements.
The Academic Advisor will work as a member of the Academic Advising team to develop and implement student support programs, faculty training programs, participate in meetings regarding academic advising and student academic development, and make recommendations to the School of Education Dean and the School of Arts and Sciences Dean for modifications and improvements.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Assists with the general academic advising and monitoring of the academic progress of undergraduate students Provides support for advising and registration of students as needed Plans and presents workshops for students and faculty on topics related to advising, registration, and general academic information, policies, and procedures Serves as a contact and resource for students, faculty and staff for issues relating to the College’s academic requirements and student academic progress Assists with outreach to and follow-up with students for whom concerns have been shared through the College’s Early Alert system and provides appropriate referrals to campus resources Participates in training and programming initiatives offered through the Office of Academic Advising and the Deans’ offices Additional duties as assigned

- Demonstrated interest in student development and dedication to the College’s core values Excellent written, oral communication, and interpersonal skills Experience with modern Student Information Systems, Blackboard, MS Office Suite and Early Alert systems
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree A minimum of two years of experience in academic advising in a College environment
Preferred Qualifications
- Master’s Degree preferred Experience in advising various student populations (first-year, education majors, etc.) is desirable Spanish or Multilingual a plus

- This is an in-person, student-facing position.
