Job Summary:

This is a technical position that functions as a subject matter expert for Building Automation Systems (BAS) and Controls. This position works within the Digital Controls Shop. The primary responsibilities of this position include monitoring, programming, servicing, installing, and commissioning of campuses Building Automation Systems. This position requires technical engineering experience, knowledge and skills for effective decision making and management of complex technical issues related to a wide variety of BAS, temperature controls, utility distribution, HVAC systems and IT and data communications systems. This person will also assist in managing the incorporation of new project installations onto the campus's existing BAS network while maintaining high quality standards.

Responsibilities: Programs, monitors, and troubleshoots Building Automation Systems (BAS) and controls to ensure and improve operation of complex facility, utility generation and distribution, and life safety system functionality. Develops and implements procedures and capabilities to monitor and predict operational capability.
  • 5% Coordinates, manages, implements and/or performs technical product support for a wide range of BAS systems and components
  • 5% Engineers control sequences for new installations and system upgrades
  • 10% Develops, modifies, and tests software programs for BAS systems
  • 30% Commissions and provides contractor oversight for new and existing BAS installations and modifications
  • 5% Sets up and configures workstations, user interfaces, data servers, networking devices, protocols, routers, switches, mass storage devices, gateways, and/or hubs for BAS functionality
  • 10% Creates, verifies, and updates point databases and programmable logic schemes and troubleshoots and resolves database issues.
  • 5% Monitors, tests, maintains, and repairs electronic and pneumatic building control systems components and related mechanical equipment
  • 5% Operates the service desk, identifying, troubleshooting, triaging, and escalating system functionality and field issues
  • 5% Monitors and configures critical system alarms and their routing. Sets-up historical data capturing and totalization for archiving to data historian servers
  • 5% Manages Campuses building automation database naming standards. Collaborates with Campuses
    field controller program library manager to ensure consistency throughout the department
  • 5% Manages Campuses building automation control drawing standards
  • 10% Reviews plans and specs for new digital controls installations on Capitol Planning and internal projects

Education:

Bachelor's Degree preferred or Associates Degree with equivalent combination of training, and experience

Qualifications:

A preferred candidate will have 2 years minimum experience in building automation installation with programming experience of DDC field controllers and BAS overhead logic. The current BAS platforms supported by UW Madison are Johnson Controls. ALC. Niagara (Tridium), and Phoenix Controls.

A qualified candidate will have experience in the commissioning of building HVAC systems or other related field with a desire to learn the programming of automation systems.

It is anticipated this position requires work be performed in-person, onsite, at a designated campus work location.
