FP&M is a full-spectrum service organization that builds, maintains, and operates the physical environment of the UW-Madison campus in support of the university's education, research, and outreach activities. FP&M works behind the scenes to coordinate campus planning, manage design and construction, maintain and operate buildings and grounds, supply utility services, ensure health and safety, and provide parking, transportation, and real estate services.

We provide real property services for UW-Madison. Services include administration and negotiation of real property agreements such as leases, acquisitions, dispositions, and easements.

The Financial Specialist position provides essential financial services supporting real estate transactions and ensures timely payments of rents and reconciliation of accounts. This includes being the primary contact point for all financial-related questions

Responsibilities: Primarily reviews, approves, and advises on a variety of complex financial transactions. Reconciles transactions. Maintains financial records, provides administrative processing support, and provides customer service for staff and customers in an assigned program area to support program financial management. Recommends controls and process improvements and troubleshoots complex financial errors. May be a lead or resource for others in the unit.
  • 15% Monitors financial transactions and fund balances and generates and reconciles complex reports and statements in accordance with established rules and regulations
  • 30% Reviews and approves complex transactions and assigns funding codes in accordance with established rules, regulations, and policies
  • 5% Reallocates expenses to appropriate funding strings
  • 5% Drafts communications and reports and maintains organization of varied records to provide administrative support within a specified work unit
  • 5% Answers complex fiscal questions and provides information based on set materials and standards to various audiences
  • 10% Reviews transaction processing internal controls and recommends policies and procedures
  • 5% Serve as a unit liaison to leadership providing financial advice, recommendations, and financial status updates
  • 5% May train staff on financial processes and best practices
  • 10% Serve as primary contact for Department staff, UW System staff, and tenants of leased space regarding financial matters pertaining to leased properties
  • 10% Manage accounts payable and receivable related to real estate transactions
