Job Description:

The Student Learning Center at the State University of New York at Oneonta invites applications for the position of Academic Success Consultant . In this temporary 12-month, grant funded position, the successful candidate will support the Academic Success Program by providing outreach and support to students who are at risk of not persisting because they have experienced academic difficulty. The Academic Success Consultant will work most closely with students on deferred dismissal and academic probation to connect them with campus resources and help them position themselves to make academic progress. The Consultant will also work cooperatively with multiple offices on campus to provide services to students.

Duties include but are not limited to
  • serving as guides for students who have been deferred dismissed or reinstated on probation.
  • creating programming and outreach for at-risk students.
  • proactively interacting with students before they fall below the standards of good academic standing.
  • working within the Student Learning Center to provide programming and support for students in the Academic Success Program.
  • representing the Student Learning Center in orientation and open house events.
  • collaborating with and supporting other offices on campus on retention and student success initiatives.

Requirements:

Required Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree.
  • Strong computer skills, including Microsoft Office.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Demonstrated higher education campus involvement.
  • One year of relevant work experience (can combine any of the following experiences): experience teaching or working in a student support capacity (including tutoring, higher education, K-12 education); experience working on campus or with university students in some relevant capacity.
Preferred:
  • Experience working with and serving diverse populations.
  • Experience with program/event development, implementation, and evaluation.
  • Two years of experience working in teaching, higher education, or student support capacity.
