Position Summary
This position will oversee all compliance activities for the athletic department to include, but not limited to, financial aid, eligibility, CARA monitoring, reporting, and rules education. The position will also provide support for the student-athletes in the areas of academic support and student-athlete development.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Coordinate and monitor academic activities in the Athletic Department;
- Monitor student-athletes academic progress;
- Monitor roster changes, study hall and referrals to campus entities for student-athlete academic, emotional, and physical support;
- Identifies and monitors issues affecting student-athlete eligibility and retention;
- Meet with student-athletes regularly regarding their eligibility and progress toward degree;
- Act as liaison with Academic Support, Admissions, Registrar, and Financial Aid;
- Provide general assistance to the Directors of Athletics with respect to day-to-day operations;
- Maintain regular communication and hold weekly meetings with coaches;
- Serve on various departmental and institutional committees as requested;
- Participate in a ll game day operations for NMHU Intercollegiate Athletics, including set up, break down, game day supervisor, and venue preparation;
- Ensure compliance with NCAA, Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference, and NMHU rules and regulations related to recruitment, eligibility, admissions, and financial aid;
- Report violations of rules to the NCAA and RMAC ;
- Conduct evaluations of transcripts to determine eligibility status for PSA’s;
- Prepare financial aid agreements and NLI’s for incoming PSA’s;
- Maintain accurate scholarship lists and rosters for each program;
- Maintain a full understanding and knowledge of NCAA Division II manual and keep abreast of new legislation and amendments to NCAA rules and regulations;
- Serve as advisor for the Student Athlete Advisory Committee ( SAAC ), conducting meetings throughout the year and work with leadership to deal with issues raised by student-athletes;
- Serve on the Administrative Team for the Department of Athletics for NMHU ;
- Develop, publish and update student handbook for athletics in cooperation with the Directors of Athletics, ensuring that the handbook coincides with office and operational procedures;
- Maintain regular attendance;
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in any field
- Education: Master’s degree in any field
- Experience: 1-3 years working in Athletics or as a student-athlete
- Must be willing to work weekends, evenings, and odd hours as required;
- Must possess and maintain a valid NM driver’s license. Selection of an out of state candidate will require possession of a valid New Mexico Driver’s license within sixty (60) days of employment.
- Computer skills in word processing, spreadsheets and databases (e.g. Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Publisher, Outlook, etc. );
- Ability to analyze and solve problems;
- Ability to maintain confidential information and inquiries with discretion;
- Strong written and oral communication skills;
- Ability to perform routine office duties;
- Ability to maintain effective working relationships with faculty, students, University community, and the public;
- Organizing and coordinating skills;
- Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
