Position Summary

The Director will work with local and regional schools, districts, and organizations forming and leading strategic partnerships focused on fostering transformational change and improvement in educational outcomes with a focus on rural Northern New Mexico. The partnerships led by the Director include Professional Development Schools ( PDS ) and Full-Service Community Schools ( FSCS ) participating in the New Mexico Highlands University ( NMHU ) Problems of Practice Summit. The Director will lead in the development and dissemination of evidence-based approaches to improving education in partnering schools in collaboration with the School of Education’s ( SOE ) research institute, the Institute for Culturally and Linguistically Responsive Learning and Teaching ( ICLRLT ) .

The main objectives of the Director are to work in collaboration with the ICLRLT to:
  • Provide leadership and oversight of the NMHU PDS Network;
  • Work with outside partners and local community agencies;
  • Develop teams to support and advise school leadership with transitioning into Full-Service Community Schools and Bilingual Education Programs;
  • Support grant applications which have the potential to impact the success of PDS and FSCS’s by providing funding for new programs, projects, or approaches;
  • Support the Co-teaching Residency Coordinator and Programs;
  • Plan, manage, and evaluate the SOE’s annual Problems of Practice Summit each June to include co-developing school level needs analysis and managing follow-up sessions with attending schools and districts during the school year.
Duties and Responsibilities
  • Serve as a liaison between NMHU School of Education, and state-wide PDS partner schools.
  • Establish a state-wide PDS Advisory that includes representation from NMHU SOE Centers, and conduct regular meetings with the stakeholders (school principals, cooperating teachers, mentor teachers, and special project leadership teams);
  • Collaborate with PDS school liaisons, Office of Clinical Experiences, Department Chairs;
  • Coordinate with PDS partners to execute Problems of Practice project goals and objectives;
  • Collect, analyze, and report data and facilitate data conversations with stakeholder groups to inform improvement in collaboration with the Director of Assessment and Accreditation, and
  • Additional duties as assigned.
Minimum Job Requirements
  • Master’s Degree in Education or related field;
  • Three or more years of experience teaching in a K-12 setting;
  • Three or more years of experience as a mentor or instructional coach in a K-12 setting;
  • Three or more years of demonstrated successful experience as a leadership coach.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Terminal degree in education, related area, or equivalent;
  • Background in Educational Coaching, Adult Learning, Linguistic and Culturally Responsive Teaching and Leadership Development;
  • Experience with Bilingual Education;
  • Experience developing conferences and workshops;
  • Experience as an Instructional Leader;
  • Experience working with educators in rural and rural remote school districts serving Indigenous Peoples of the Americas and Hispanic Communities;
  • Research experience;
  • Experience in meeting the needs of diverse adult learners in multiple modalities;
  • Technology forward pedagogies.

  • Commitment to improving educational equity through teacher and administrator leadership;
  • Knowledge of and experience working towards culturally and linguistically sustaining pedagogies;
  • Knowledge and experience in various teaching modalities including face-to-face, online synchronous, asynchronous, and/or blended learning;
  • Knowledge and understanding of adult learning theories, principles and strategies, and experience teaching/coaching adults;
  • Strong planning and organizational skills;
  • Ability to develop effective methodologies that integrate teaching, meta-cognition, and research;
  • Ability to engage in collaboration with other departments within the university;
  • Ability to apply evidence-based coaching and mentorship strategies and skills;
  • Ability to conduct research (formal and action) pertaining to questions relevant to effective teaching (coaching, culturally sustaining pedagogy, and leadership);
  • Ability to develop strong professional relationships with a diverse range of colleagues and partners;
  • Ability to manage multiple complex tasks simultaneously;
  • Ability to work with data for conducting impact studies, and
  • Good familiarity with Word, Outlook, Google Docs, Teams, Excel, and Zoom.
