Germanna Community College is a public, open access institution of higher education in the Virginia Community College System. The purpose of the role is to maintain the physical appearance of the parking garage, parking lots and college campus. Perform groundskeeper duties to include but not limited to mowing, edging, weed eating, spreading mulch, planting shrubs, flowers, and trees, weed removal, leaf removal, and litter removal and snow removal. Perform preventive maintenance on parking garage and parking lots to included but not limited to cleaning the lots and garage, garage entrance cleaning, and checking elevator. Perform unskilled plumbing, electrical, carpentry, painting, event set-up/tear down and furniture moves as directed by the supervisor. Position serves has back-up to the courier.

Major Duties and Responsibilities:

• Grounds Maintenance: Under the direction of the supervisor or from work request perform groundskeeper duties to include but not limited to mowing, edging, weed eating, spreading mulch, planting shrubs, flowers, and trees, weed removal, leaf removal, litter removal, and snow removal.
• Parking Garage and Parking Lots Maintenance: Under the direction of the supervisor or from work request perform preventive maintenance on parking garage and parking lots to included but not limited to cleaning the lots and garage, garage entrance cleaning, checking elevator, checking lights and exit signs.
• Equipment Maintenance and Repairs: Perform general and preventive maintenance for all college power equipment that pertains to grounds maintenance.
• Building Maintenance and Repairs: Assist in general maintenance to the facilities structure, to include carpentry, vinyl baseboards, floor tiles, lock repairs, painting, and ceiling tiles. Set-up and tear downs for events on campus. Furniture and equipment moves, to include relocating furniture and equipment to other locations.
• Courier: Perform a variety of duties from picking up and delivering mail between campuses, making bank deposits, delivering copy paper and office supplies, inventorying supplies.

KSA's/Required Qualifications:

• High school graduate
• Prior experience in grounds and building maintenance
• Valid Virginia Drivers License
• Ability to lift/move/carry 50 pounds
• Ability to follow verbal and written directions

Preferred Qualifications:

• 2-4 years of experience in grounds and building maintenance
• Pesticide Applicator Certificate or the ability obtain it
• Ability to operate zero-turn lawn mowers, light and medium duty tractor, and hand held power tools
