CONTEXT OF THE JOB:

The Division of Enrollment Management at the University of Delaware seeks an Assistant Vice President for Enrollment Management assuming leadership and full functional responsibility for the planning, development, implementation, evaluation and management of data, analytics and communications related needs for the division. Reporting to the Vice President for Enrollment Management, the Assistant Vice President is responsible for: executive reporting of enrollment management and other student data & reports; enrollment research across the higher education landscape lending to enrollment strategies and student success; and predictive modeling supporting undergraduate enrollment which connects the student lifecycle.

The incumbent will work closely with the Vice President for Enrollment Management to provide campus-wide leadership in executing the strategic recruitment, admission, enrollment, new student programs, records management, and student financial aid support functions for the university; support leaders across the university in optimizing enrollment to inform our strategy. The ideal candidate will have working knowledge and appreciation for selective public and private university admissions.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Serve as adviser to the Vice President for Enrollment Management and member of the senior Enrollment leadership team.
  • Responsible for planning, implementing, and evaluating data needs and maximizing collaborative culture across the Enrollment Management Division.
  • Gather, prepare, analyze, and report large amounts of data with accuracy to university decision-makers, upon request and in anticipation of needs.
  • Research and implement environmental scans to analyze student enrollment trends in the state of Delaware, nationally, and globally. Support the creation of models to predict enrollment, impact of financial aid on student decision making and inform recruitment practices.
  • Plan, develop, implement, coordinate, and evaluate cross-functional data projects. Consult with directors, functionally oversee, and support the enrollment unit directors to analyze trends, forecast, and provide data sets.
  • Collaborate with leadership to ensure effective yield models, advise admission and financial aid decisions, and provide internal estimates of first year and transfer enrollment.
  • Monitor admission and enrollment data throughout the cycle to detect anomalies or changes in trends that could indicate changes in student behavior.
  • Prepare executive level reports and presentations including graphical displays, often transforming complicated data sets into easy-to-understand data points.
  • Collaborate throughout the College community and maintain strong relationships with departments, work closely with the alumni office, and contribute to marketing, communications, and publications.
  • Collaborate with departments across the university to create a common understanding of enrollment data analysis and reporting, definitions, and best practices.
  • Lead, define, and develop original research projects addressing enrollment management questions and issues. Contribute to discussions regarding access and diversity in the context of admission, financial aid, and retention related concerns.
  • Integrate concepts and use data reporting tools available on campus and through third-party entities (e.g., National Student Clearinghouse, IPEDS, College Board).
  • Assist in the development of a coordinated approach to financial aid, registration, and academic advising.
  • Provide guidance in the design of promotional and display materials for admissions.
  • Engage with industry peers, participate in relevant professional associations, and keep current of trends impacting enrollment management.
  • Review, coordinate, and enhance the admissions/enrollment business processes to ensure enhanced utilization of technology and increase the effectiveness and efficiency of the Division.
  • Complete occasional required evening and/or weekend work.
  • Performs other job-related duties.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelors required, master’s degree preferred, with seven years of management experience at a higher education institution preferably in admissions, financial aid, or with other student records.
  • Strong problem-solving and management skills to develop and present solutions to multi-faceted issues in a creative manner. Ability to make decisions guided by the outcomes of past practices.
  • Excellent writing and editing skills to prepare a variety of analytical reports, proposals, correspondence, procedures, agreements, and training documents.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills to establish and maintain cooperative and effective relationships at all levels.
  • Deep understanding of federal regulations, procedures, and guidelines involved in handling sensitive data (e.g., regulated student data related to Federal Financial Aid, Student Records/FERPA).
  • Proven commitment to diversity and success in working with diverse constituencies to support data analytics and an equitable and inclusive campus environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to utilize advanced level statistical knowledge to collect and analyze complex data.
  • Three or more years of progressive experience working with data mining and sophisticated modeling of data-informed outcomes.
  • Experience with SQL, HTML, JavaScript, PHP, VP, and ASP, Cognos, and Tableau; knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, Visio and PowerPoint.
  • Advanced ability to present complex findings and recommendations in a clear concise manner, verbally and written, and convey ideas to non-technical and diverse audiences including faculty, staff, and executive officials.
  • Advanced experience in enrollment management research, modeling, and analysis preferred; working knowledge of admissions and financial aid policies and data management.
  • Familiarity with Oracle PeopleSoft, Slate, or other student information systems and customer relations software suites preferred.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of broader issues and trends affecting enrollment management in higher education preferred.
  • Demonstrated understanding and consideration of the differing needs and concerns of individuals with varying identities, cultures, and backgrounds.
