Southwestern Illinois College is accepting applications for a full-time, tenure track position of Instructor in the Respiratory Care degree program within the Business, Health Sciences & Homeland Security division. The anticipated start date is August 1, 2023. 

POSITION DESCRIPTION:  The successful applicant will serve as instructor in the Respiratory Care program. As an instructor, the individual will teach Respiratory Care courses in both the traditional and computerized environment, assist the program coordinator with program operations, accreditation standards, and the clinical education component of the program. The individual will also assess student performance and collaborate with Respiratory Care faculty to evaluate the effectiveness of instruction in each of the programs. Opportunities exist for participation in professional development activities and service on departmental, divisional, and/or college-wide committees.

QUALIFICATIONS

  1. Registered Respiratory Therapist with a minimum of four (4) years of experience as a Registered Respiratory Therapist with at least two (2) years in clinical respiratory care.
  2. Hold a valid Registered Respiratory Therapy (RRT) credential by the National Board for Respiratory Care (NBRC) and current license as a Respiratory Care Practitioner (RCP) in the states of Illinois and Missouri.
  3. Bachelor’s degree or advanced degree from an academic institution accredited by a regional or national accrediting agency recognized by the U.S. Department of Education (USDE).
  4. Minimum of two (2) years of experience teaching in an accredited respiratory care program either as an appointed faculty member or as a clinical preceptor.
  5. Qualified through education and/or experience to assure proficiency in, but not limited to, the following areas:

 

  • Curriculum design       Program administration/evaluation Instructional methodology                                                             Testing and evaluation Educational psychology
  • Active membership in the AARC recommended.
  • Strong communication, organization, interpersonal, and advising skills.
  • Must meet and continue to maintain the professional standards established by the program’s accrediting agencies including the Commission on Accreditation for Respiratory Care.
  • Experience in accreditation activities, preferred.
  • Knowledge of and ability to use personal computers, applicable software, and Internet required.
  • Shall meet the minimum standards of instruction established by the Administration and the Board of Trustees for any assigned courses.
  • A valid driver’s license is required.

STARTING SALARY:  This is a nine-month teaching position with the salary determined by placement on the base salary schedule.  For example, the minimum 2022-2023 starting salary at Step 1 on the Below Master’s Degree column is $48,491 and the Master’s Degree is $51,461. Voluntary overload teaching assignments and summer may increase the annual compensation by 40%.  The College offers a comprehensive flexible benefit program.

WORK LOCATION:  Respiratory Care instructional responsibilities at the Belleville campus with district-wide clinical coordination responsibilities.  Driving may be required to reach off-campus sites, visit clinical facilities throughout the region and to attend professional functions within the state of Illinois.
