This range takes into account a variety of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions, including experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. Salary offers are determined based on the final candidate’s qualifications and experience, as well as internal equity and other internal factors. Job Description Summary
Reporting to the Assistant Vice President, Annual Giving, the Associate Director will identify, qualify, cultivate, solicit, and steward annual unrestricted gifts to the university from a pool of prospects targeting leadership gifts of $1,000-$25,000+ with an annual fundraising goal that will be assessed and set annually.
The Associate Director will oversee the growth of the President’s Circle leadership giving. This position will supervise the Assistant Director, Chapman Fund, ensuring effective prospect management, fundraising, and stewardship.
As a member of the University Advancement team, assist and support engagement activities to meet institutional goals.

Responsibilities
PROSPECT MANAGEMENT & FUNDRAISING
- Serve as front line cultivation officer to create opportunities for connecting the Chapman Family with the University’s funding priorities.
- Manage personal portfolio and solicit gifts for the Chapman Fund. Meet or exceed individual annual fundraising goal.
- Effectively grow the Chapman Fund donor pool by soliciting new donors and securing donations from lapsed donors.
- Participate in developing and implementing a successful constituent-based fundraising strategy and plan.
- Participate in qualifying prospects in database.
- Meet prospect contact goals including monthly visits, solicitations, cultivation, and stewardship activities.
- Work effectively with constituents within and outside the university to increase Chapman’s visibility and achieve fundraising goals.
- Utilize moves matrix system to advance prospects.
- Provide personalized customer service for donors and prospects.
- Prepare development reports to evaluate progress toward achievement of quarterly/annual goals. Analyze information to identify trends and patterns.
- Provide recommendations to the Assistant Vice President of Annual Giving on strategy improvements.
- Assess existing President’s Circle leadership giving society and develop and implement strategies to enhance stewardship opportunities and grow membership.
- Oversee and implement logistics for Chapman Fund stewardship events.
- Identify compelling stewardship opportunities and stories on behalf of Chapman Fund; execute planning and publication.
- Provide support, guidance, and supervision to Assistant Director, Chapman Fund.
- Develop strategy to ensure focus on and consistent progress toward cultivation and fundraising goals. Coach and mentor the Assistant Director on best practices to achieve targeted fundraising results, consistent with Chapman’s annual giving model.
- Assess performance and provide feedback and recommendations for professional development.
- Bachelor’s degree and a minimum of four years of fundraising experience.
- Demonstrated understanding of principles and practices of annual fundraising and its role in developing and executing strategic institutional advancement fundraising strategies.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to interact and work with diverse individuals and groups at all organizational levels, both inside and outside of the University, and develop and maintain relationships with prospects and donors.
- Proven ability to plan, coordinate, and implement multiple projects simultaneously under tight deadlines.
- Ability to demonstrate tact and diplomacy and maintain a high level of confidentiality and customer service.
- Ability to learn and comply with all University policies and procedures, as well as relevant laws, rules, and regulations, including FERPA and best practices.
- Previous supervisory experience, including responsibility to train, coach, and evaluate.
- Experience in a higher educational setting or non-profit preferred.
