The Center for Systems Science and
Engineering (CSSE), a dynamic research laboratory in the Department
of Civil and Systems Engineering, is seeking aResearch
Assistantto contribute to ongoing proposals and projects
pertaining to data collection and model development. The Research
Assistant will aim to further CSSE’s understanding of and
contributions to data driven policy and evidence-based decision
making in the US and around the world.
Specific Duties & Responsibilities
- The researcher will contribute towards the development of novel data collection and processing methods for applications ranging from public health to misinformation. The expected outcomes include the following.
- Identify, collect and evaluate new datasets, including online social media platforms.
- Prepare interactive visualizations and analyses to better understand the data, and its potential use cases.
- Develop data-driven statistical, network and optimization models.
- Help draft publications to communicate findings.
- Assist with writing proposals.
- Other duties as assigned.
Special Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Strong programming and data visualization
skills.
- Documentation and presentation
skills.
- Demonstrated experience in analyzing large-scale data sets.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in related discipline.
- Additional related experience may substitute for required education, to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in computer science, engineering, applied or computational mathematics or closely related field strongly preferred.
- Previous experience working on data science applications.
- Demonstrated experience in working on large-scale multi-disciplinary projects.
- The ability to work effectively as part of a multi-disciplinary research team.
- Illustrate the motivation and discipline to carry out autonomous research.
- High-level interpersonal, written and oral communication skills in English.
- A record of research accomplishment as reflected in publications in peer-reviewed journals and conferences and presentations at scientific meetings.
- Strong programming and data visualization skills.
