Development and Alumni Relations (DAR) supports Johns Hopkins’ focus on research, teaching and patient care, and its role as a national and global leader in higher education. Johns Hopkins University supports a flexible work model which includes four different work modalities. This role has a hybrid work arrangement with an onsite presence of 3 days per week. The manager will confirm the team’s core onsite days where the majority/all team members will work in the office. Employees who travel on university business can count those days towards their onsite days.The Office of External Affairs encompasses three teams: 1) Communications and Marketing; 2) Development and Alumni Relations and 3) Finance and Administration.
The Development & Alumni Relations Team is responsible for raising philanthropic resources and building connections with alumni and unaffiliated individuals, foundations, and corporations to support the School's education, research, and public health practice. The Development group includes individual-giving, institutional-relations, stewardship and communications professionals, and it collaborates significantly with the university's centrally based colleagues. The Alumni Relations group uses a robust communications program to promote a diverse set of events and engagement opportunities that seek to promote public-health advocacy and annual fund support.

Reporting directly to the Administrative Supervisor the Sr. Development Coordinator is an essential member of the OEA’s development team executing a variety of functions and activities that support our fundraising operations. The successful candidate will be skilled in managing and prioritizing multiple projects simultaneously and effectively in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.Fundraising / Finance
- Assist Director of Stewardship and
Development Communications and Assistant Director of Stewardship
with gift agreement process.
- Assist with managing / establishing
endowments
- Work with Director of Stewardship and
Development Communications, Associate Director of Finance &
Admin, General Accounting, and Advancement Services to establish
new endowments and makes changes to existing ones; prepare memos
and corresponding documentation, submit for approval and establish
tracking system
- Prepare professorship nomination requests
for Board of Trustees approval
- Establish a system for tracking
professorship and new endowment funding status
- Review and track University and BSPH gift
assessments monthly. Initiate corrections and exemptions/exceptions
as needed. Maintain proper records of exemptions to gift assessment
and notify Business Office and General Accounting staff as
appropriate
- Manage pledge reminder process. Track large
pledges and work with gift officers and their administrative staff
to send quarterly pledge reminders; update annual pledge reminders
to be sent by OAS; alert gift officers of pledges that are nearing
completion
- Under the supervision of the Administrative
Supervisor, enter solicitations, proposals, and actions for the
Associate Dean
- During peak giving times, serve as a back up to Budget Analyst with reviewing and submitting gift sessions in CRM
Stewardship / Donor Relations
- Assist with Gift Map program / pulling reports, proposals from system, updating data
- Review weekly gift tracking and develop and
maintain tracking of data points
- Using Development email address, prepare and
send email acknowledgments for gifts under $250 and prepare and
mail thank you cards for gifts under $250
- Prepare and send new donor notecards and in
memory and in honor notifications
- Enter batch actions for stewardship
activities
- Prepare and send acknowledgement letters for the Associate Dean
- Assist with creation of Impact and Student
Stewardship Reports and assist with mailing
packets
- Create Honors and Awards Program (includes
formatting document, proofreading, etc)
- Make updates to the Funding Opportunities
website
- Manage updating the departmental funds
spreadsheet
- Oversee creation and maintenance of
professorship plaques and university professorship
website.
Other
- Work with the Sr. Admin Coordinator for
Communications and Marketing to submit requests for pulling mailing
lists for the Public Health magazine, annual holiday card and other
mailings as needed.
- Monitor general BSPH Development email box
and triage messages as needed
- Draft and editing
briefings
- Assist with special projects and assignments and function as a part of the operations team as needed for larger group projects and support needs
Minimum Qualifications
- High School Diploma or graduation equivalent.
- Five years related administrative experience, with one year experience in a Development office preferred.
- Additional education may substitute for required experience, to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.
Preferred Qualifications
Excellent oral and written communication skills required, strong organization skills, and a strong attention to detail including the ability to set priorities, meet deadlines in a timely fashion as well as work in an extremely fast paced environment. Experience using a CRM or familiarity with a fundraising environment a plus. Applicants should also be polite, friendly and a team player. This position requires one who enjoys meeting and working with a wide variety of people. Responsibilities require significant collaboration and coordination with others.
