Brief Summary of Work for this Position

The Associate Director for Faculty and Staff Development in the School of Nursing within the College of Health and Human Services at the University of North Carolina Wilmington is part of a collaborative School Leadership Team. The Associate Director for Faculty and Staff Development provides school-level leadership, management, and oversight of professional development and mentorship activities for faculty and staff that lead faculty to reach appropriate reappointment, promotion, and tenure milestones and ensure the retention of professional staff.

The Associate Director orients new faculty members and part-time instructors to the goals, policies, and procedures of the School and College. Reporting to the Director of the School of Nursing and Irwin Belk Distinguished Professor, the Associate Director serves as the primary liaison to the College Research and Innovation and Community Engagement efforts.

This administrator is a key resource for faculty in the development of scholarship and service goals, a champion of collaborating across various resources to ensure appropriate innovation in teaching, research, and service efforts, and serves as a professional mentor for faculty and staff across the School. As a member of the collaborative leadership team in the School, the Associate Director contributes information to the School Director related to faculty and staff needs in order to be successful in their professional journeys.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements

Qualifications must include the following:
  • A doctoral degree in either nursing or a related discipline with a baccalaureate or graduate degree in nursing.
  • A current RN license in NC or eligibility for licensure in NC

The successful applicant must qualify for a tenured appointment in the School of Nursing at the rank of Associate Professor or Professor upon hire

This position will be expected to relocate to North Carolina and maintain a campus presence as part of the School of Nursing faculty.

Primary Purpose of Organizational Unit

The School of Nursing ( SON ) has an outstanding legacy of serving the people of southeastern N.C. through education, scholarship, and service. The SON is dedicated to excellence in the development of healthcare professionals through in-depth education, professional partnerships, applied research, regional engagement, and community outreach and impact.

The SON is located in McNeill Hall, a state-of-the-art facility that includes offices, classrooms, a large lecture hall, computer laboratories, student success areas, learning commons, and the Simulation Learning Center.

The Simulation Learning Center uses high, medium, and low-fidelity human patient simulators as teaching and learning tools for nursing education. Through the use of simulation, we strive to create a realistic environment and a powerful learning experience that promotes the cognitive, affective, physical, and social development of the student as well as the incorporation of inter-professional collaborative experiences for students across the degree programs in the College.

The School of Nursing ( SON ) offers the following degree programs:

  • MS in Nursing (Family Nurse Practitioner, Nurse Educator)
  • Post-Master’s Certificate in Family Nurse Practice

Over 2,500 undergraduate and nearly 600 graduate students are enrolled in programs within the SON . Currently, the SON has over 80 full-time faculty. The SON’s online bachelor’s degree in nursing program is ranked 7th among 2019’s “Best Online BSN Degrees” by the US News and World Report.

College/School Information

The College of Health and Human Services was created in July 2010 to provide UNCW with a new mechanism to link and focus its health-related research, professional continuing education, and health knowledge dissemination and application. In the formative stage of development, the CHHS is currently home to three professional schools: School of Health and Applied Human Sciences, School of Nursing, and School of Social Work. The College seeks to be nationally recognized for its inter-professional and collaborative approach to enhancing the health and quality of life of individuals, families, and communities in southeastern North Carolina and beyond.
