Position Description

Instructor of Cello
The University of Mississippi invites applications for the faculty position (non-tenure track) of Instructor of Cello in the Department of Music in the College of Liberal Arts.

Responsibilities: Teach applied cello and string bass, perform as cellist in faculty ensembles, participate in end-of-the-semester juried exams, and teach other courses as assigned. Evidence of a secondary area of teaching expertise is desirable, e.g., bass, music theory, music history.

Minimum Qualifications
Candidates for the position must have earned a Master of Music degree in Cello Performance, an equivalent degree, or have demonstrated equivalent experience.

About the Music Department
The University of Mississippi Department of Music’s mission is to prepare students for professional careers by offering bachelor’s and master’s degrees in music education and performance, master’s degrees in choral conducting, collaborative piano, musicology, ethnomusicology, and music theory, and a PhD in Music Education. Students entering our programs become part of a vibrant community led by a distinguished faculty, with 25 full-time and 12 adjunct members dedicated to teaching, research and performance. Our students (more than 150 majors) receive the rigorous individual attention necessary to develop their full potential in our newly-renovated music building. As a department within the College of Liberal Arts, we are also committed to offering stimulating courses and performance opportunities for non-majors.
