Position Summary

VCU's School of Business is inviting talented and enthusiastic candidates to apply for a Business Manager position within our Center for Sport Leadership team. This position will play a critical role in supporting the financial and administrative operations of the Center and will report to the Executive Director.

Typical Responsibilities
  • Serve as the vital point of contact for advanced financial and administrative operations, and the day-to-day office management of the graduate program
  • Primary responsibility of monitoring the budget for reconciliation of expenses and revenue

  • Assist the Executive Director, faculty, and staff in managing all business functions of the Center

  • Prepare and submit grant proposals in RAMS-SPOT and serve as fiscal administrator and coordinator on external grants secured by Center faculty

  • Collaborate with the School of Business finance team in preparing enrollment projections for the Center as well as confirming projected numbers to actuals

  • Serve as point of contact for current and prospective graduate students regarding financial aid matters

  • Review student accounts to ensure and verify payments to the Center, process and complete required forms for scholarship, financial aid, and graduate assistant funding

  • Coordinate, schedule, prepare, and process reimbursements related to travel (domestic and international) for the Center’s faculty, staff, and students

  • Collaborate with the School of Business Human Resources department in preparation of adjunct faculty contracts and other hiring needs at the Center

  • Serve as administrator for search committees as requested

  • Interpret existing university policies, procedures, laws and regulations to enhance the functions of the Center for Sport Leadership at VCU

  • Ensure that all University policies and procedures and State guidelines are followed

  • Primary point of contact on facilities management and technology agreements

  • Participate in and contribute to student and alumni events related to the Center

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, business administration or related field and 5-7 years of relevant professional experience or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and analyze detailed financial data, maintain confidentiality, interpret information, and provide logical conclusions and projections

  • Ability to prioritize, anticipate needs, and respond quickly to requests

  • Excellent verbal/written communication and customer service skills

  • Professionalism, discretion, and strong work ethic are imperative

  • Comprehensive skills in various software applications such as Microsoft Word, Excel, Google suite, and database and presentation programs

  • Must display excellent organizational and time management skills

  • Demonstrated ability to handle multiple tasks efficiently and by stated deadlines

  • Attention to detail is essential

  • Demonstrated professional collaboration skills to foster an efficient and effective team environment, while contributing to an environment of integrity and ethical behaviors

  • A professional, pleasant, positive, and helpful service attitude is essential

  • Demonstrated experience working in and fostering a diverse faculty, staff, and student environment or commitment to do so as a staff member at VCU

Preferred Qualifications
  • Knowledge of university budgeting, grant management, financial, and purchasing procedures preferred
  • Experience with booking international travel preferred

  • Knowledge and experience of the SAS and Banner financial and reporting system preferred

  • Knowledge of University protocols and organization preferred

  • Experience with facilities management, a plus

  • Experience using Jotform and/or Smartsheet, a plus

This position is eligible for a hybrid and flexible work schedule once training is complete and as determined by the supervisor of this role. The position’s regular hours are Monday-Friday 8am-5pm, 40 hours per week.
