Job Description:

Brown University Athletics is currently seeking candidates for the Assistant Coach, Gymnastics position. Located in Providence, Rhode Island, and a member of the Ivy League, our intercollegiate athletics program consists of 34 varsity teams with approximately 1,000 athletes who participate within the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA-D1).

Reporting to the Head Coach, Gymnastics, this fulltime role assists the Head Coach in all phases of the Gymnastics Program. This includes coaching, athlete development, spotting, practice planning, competition scheduling, recruiting, and administrative duties. Job duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to:
  • Provides direction for student-athletes at practices and competition.
  • Works with the Head Coach, assist with identifying and evaluating prospects.
  • Identify and recruit quality student-athletes who have a reasonable opportunity for success both academically and athletically at Brown University.
  • Assists the Head Coach in the management of the overall program as directed. Examples of assistance may include, but are not limited to, assisting in the student-athlete academic progress, enforcing academic policies, participating in public relations efforts to promote the program, coordinating scheduling, administering team travel, equipment management, personnel management, etc.
Education and Experience
  • Bachelor’s Degree
  • 1-2 years related experience in Level 10 Gymnastics coaching.
  • Experience in a collegiate coaching and competitive gymnastics experience preferred.
Job Competencies
  • Ability to recruit within NCAA and Ivy League Rules.
  • Excellent organizational, interpersonal, communication & computer skills, necessary
  • Demonstrated ability to work with and relate well to students
  • Excellent sport specific technical, tactical and strategic knowledge.
  • Possess a willingness and ability to support a diverse and inclusive environment.
  • Basic proficiency in excel, word, internet & email capabilities.
  • Social media experience, helpful.
  • Familiarity with ARMS and Teamworks, or similar, preferred.
  • Prior experience with video editing software, helpful.
  • Commitment to the student-athlete, passion for the game and ability to coach & motivate.
  • Knowledge and understanding of, and commitment to comply with, NCAA, Ivy League and University rules and regulations.
All division employees are required to demonstrate exemplary ethical conduct and conformance to NCAA rules and regulations; the duties of the position are to be performed in compliance with all NCAA and Ivy League rules and regulations; and any rules violations on behalf of themselves or any knowledge of violations within the division are to be reported to the appropriate parties.

Employees in coaching positions are required to pass the NCAA Coaches Certification Test, maintain current AED/CPR & First Aid certification (certification is available at no cost through the Division), and attend all required divisional and/or NCAA training/education programs.
