The expected starting salary range for this position is $90,000 up to $100,000 for experienced candidates. Actual pay will depend on experience and qualifications. Job Summary:

The Associated Students of Madison (ASM) is the shared governance body representing the over 47,000 students at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. The Director of ASM Staff and Programs provides leadership and management for the professional staff members within ASM and strives to create an inclusive workplace environment. This position requires a strong commitment to student shared governance, an understanding of navigating large complex organizations, a dedication to supporting staff professional development, expertise in facilitating and coordinating training sessions, experience working with a diverse student and staff team, and a commitment to continually engage in best practices to support student and staff success. The director is also a primary advisor for a number of student government leaders and supports the overall programs funded through ASM.

Responsibilities: Directs strategic planning, services, programming, staff management, and budget planning to promote student learning and development.
  • 20% Directs strategic planning initiatives and establishes objectives to ensure appropriate use of financial, administrative and staffing resources, and alignment with the strategic plan
  • 10% Develops operating policies and procedures to comply with regulations, institutional policies, and objectives
  • 20% Exercises supervisory authority, including hiring, transferring, suspending, promoting, managing conduct and performance, discharging, assigning, rewarding, disciplining, and/or approving hours worked of at least 2.0 full-time equivalent (FTE) employees
  • 10% Develops and audits the budget
  • 20% Serves as the liaison by collaborating with internal and external stakeholder groups and providing organizational information
  • 20% Advise and connect regularly with individual student leaders within ASM
Tasks:
  • Serving as a member of the Student Advocacy Leadership Team
  • Responsible for initiating staff training and professional development for ASM staff and for ASM student leaders
  • Administering the Ginsberg Family Awards for ASM
  • Oversight and authorization of student drivers
  • Oversight of Assessment Initiatives within ASM
  • Coordinate with Student Activity Center building access for students and staff
  • Regularly attend and support student committee and council meetings
  • Serve as a member of the Student Affairs Council

* Strong Commitment to student shared governance.
* Experience in leading, developing, or facilitating student advocacy initiatives, professional development, training, and/or program planning for diverse populations in complex organizations, including higher education, government, non-profit, or corporate sectors.
* Ability to develop and maintain relationships with students and a variety of campus partners.
* Ability to work effectively and compassionately with individuals and groups from a variety of identities, cultures, backgrounds, and ideologies.

Preferred Qualifications:
* A proven record of high-quality direct service to students, continuous improvement within an office or program, and expertise with college student development, student advocacy initiatives, and student affairs.

This position require some work to be performed in-person, onsite, at a designated campus work location. Some work may be performed remotely at an offsite, non-campus work location upon supervisor and department/Student Affairs division approval.

The Associated Students of Madison (ASM) is the official student governance body of UW-Madison, representing the needs of over 47,000 students. ASM is composed of roughly 50 elected or appointed students, 50 student employees, 9 professional staff members, and 250 student appointees on committees that hold legal rights to recommend university policies, budgets, and candidates for UW employment. ASM allocates approximately $70 million in segregated university fees each year and is responsible for the oversight of the management of the Student Activity Center and distribution of the student bus pass.
