Minimum $46,000 ANNUAL (12 months)

The typical starting salary for this position is $46,000 - $65,700 depending on qualifications and experience. The full salary range for this position is $46,000 - $85,400. Job Summary:

The Alumni Relations Strategist will serve as a member of the College of Letters & Science's Office of Strategic Communications & Advancement (SCA) team and will report to the Office's Assistant Dean. This position is part of a highly-collaborative, energetic, and integrated advancement effort.

This colleague will develop and execute marketing and advancement strategies that creatively engage the College's alumni, friends, faculty, staff, and students and build awareness of and support for the College's philanthropic needs, focusing primarily on the L&S annual giving program. L&S is the largest school or college on the UW-Madison campus, with more than 250,000 alumni, 18,000 undergraduate students (45% of the total campus enrollment), and faculty and staff working in 39 academic departments, professional schools, and programs plus dozens of centers and institutes.

Responsibilities: Executes marketing strategies for alumni programs, organizes events and analyzes data to ensure alumni relations goals are being achieved.
  • 40% Leads the development, production, and dissemination of communication and branding strategies and materials for the unit
  • 20% Plans and leads the implementation of major alumni events, volunteer committees, and activities in alignment with strategic initiatives and objectives
  • 20% Plans, directs, and executes alumni visits and discovery calls, passing leads to the appropriate major gift officers to cultivate relationships to assist in achieving established donor goals
  • 10% Serves as a unit liaison for internal and external stakeholders, answers questions, and provides information about established programs based on set material or standards
  • 5% Monitors, organizes, and updates donor records, and implements operating policies and procedures
  • 5% Identifies data trends, errors, and insufficient data; and reports variances according to established policies and procedures

Qualifications:

Required:
- A minimum of one year of professional experience in strategic communications, advancement, journalism, marketing, or closely related professional role is required. A minimum of three years is preferred.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills and ability to develop strategy, messaging, and positioning for communications and advancement.
- Strong ability to work as a positive, inspired, and collaborative team member with colleagues in the University, College, the College's units, and the Wisconsin Foundation & Alumni Association.
- Demonstrated ability to handle multiple priorities, meet tight deadlines, take initiative, work independently, and self-start.
- Exceptional attention to detail.

Preferred:
- Ability to navigate a complex academic community, including the ability to build bridges and strong collaborative relationships with a range of internal and external stakeholders to achieve objectives.
- Ability to articulate the value of a liberal arts and sciences education and the College's mission to its many internal and external stakeholders.
- Proficient graphic design skills and ability to create engaging visual and imagery concepts for various media (e.g., print, web, and social media).
- Commitment to ongoing learning around diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging and applying that knowledge to the SCA team and mission.
- Knowledge of current issues in higher education and sensitivity to political and social issues.
- Ability to work a flexible schedule to complete time-sensitive projects and to attend occasional evening and/or weekend events, as needed.
- Proficiency with MS Office, Adobe suite.
- Familiarity with Excel and producing reports based on a data within a CRM.

This position may require some work to be performed in-person, onsite, at a designated campus work location. Some work may be performed remotely, at an offsite, non-campus work location.
