The Superintendent, United States Naval Academy welcomes applicants for the Position of Academic Dean at the Naval Academy Preparatory School (NAPS), Newport, RI. The Academic Dean provides direction and leadership for the academic program of the school. NAPS offers a one-year, post high school, college preparatory program and is chartered to prepare selected candidates for admission to the U.S. Naval Academy (USNA).

Responsibilities of the position. The Academic Dean directs the NAPS faculty through four subject area supervisors. The Academic Dean provides administration, coordination, and evaluation of the academic program.  Reporting to the Commanding Officer of the Naval Academy Preparatory School, the incumbent consults with and advises the Commanding Officer on educational activities at NAPS.  A detailed summary of responsibilities and how to apply is available at https://www.usna.edu/HRO/jobinfo/NAPS-Academic-Dean-2021.php

Qualifications. The successful candidate will possess at least a master’s degree, and optimally a Ph.D., with preference given to the following disciplines: mathematics, chemistry, physics, and English. S/he must demonstrate successful experience at progressive levels of educational administration at the secondary or post-secondary level and must possess a distinguished record of classroom teaching. S/he should present evidence of effective communication, experience in the quantitative assessment of student learning, and a demonstrated collaborative style of leadership and decision making with administrators, faculty, and staff.

Terms of appointment. Competitive compensation for this non-tenure track, renewable term administrative faculty appointment is commensurate with qualifications and experience. The start date will be in April-June 2022 to support academic year 2022-2023.
