Overview
The Assistive Technology and Accommodations Coordinator serves as the office resource for assistive technology needs required for supporting students with disabilities. The role requires expertise in assistive technology and training students on the use of techno The Assistive Technology and Accommodations Coordinator facilitates disability needs assessment and arrangement of accommodations for undergraduate and graduate students with sensory, physical, some medical and temporary disabilities. The Assistive Technology and Accommodations Coordinator is responsible for managing and arranging assistive technology for students while also investigating new technologies, maintaining inventory and training students on technology. The Assistive Technology and Accommodations Coordinator arranges accommodation resources such as CART, ASL, Braille, and educates faculty and administrators on the implementation of accommodations. The Assistive Technology and Accommodations Coordinator is the Office of Disability Services (ODS) point person for maintaining the disability management system, Accommodate, and addresses all technology and website needs for the office and AccessAbility Center. In supporting the mission of the office, the Assistive Technology and Accommodations Coordinator assists in accommodating guests with disabilities who visit campus. The Accommodations Coordinator participates with ODS staff in supporting the disability awareness initiatives of the AccessAbility Center.
Responsibilities
Responsibilities: The Assistive Technology and Accommodations Coordinator will report to the Director for Disability Services for the following: Responsibilities:

Maintain a current and working
knowledge of assistive technology and train students on use of
technologies such as Dragon Naturally speaking, Livescribe smart
pen, Notetaking software, text-to-speech software. Research and
purchase new equipment, technologies and software.
Problem-solve issues with assistive
technology and collaborate with Office of Information Technology
staff to support technology needs.
Work with Undergraduate and Graduate
students with sensory, physical, some medical and temporary
impairments to assess accommodation needs and resolve course and
classroom access issues.
Hire and manage American Sign Language
(ASL) interpreters and CART (Communication Access Real-Time
Translation) providers or other vendors and assist ODS Office
Coordinator in hiring student workers serving as notetakers,
scribes, readers, etc.
Interact with faculty or administrators
to educate and implement accommodations including set up of remote
CART, on-site CART and ASL.
Coordinate document conversion to
braille and create accessible electronic text including
collaboration with internal staff or vendors.

Manage inventory of technological
devices, equipment and software used for student
accommodations.
Research, recommend and purchase new
equipment, technologies and software.
Develop, edit and maintain Office of
Disability Services and AccessAbility Center website using Drupal
platform.
Create training modules and supports
for student workers.
Provide back-up for the Office
Administrator answering telephones and greeting students and
visitors.
Support office as needed, including
Commencement events, and participate in programming for the
AccessAbility Center. Some evening and weekends may be required for
special events or during peak times
Qualifications
-
Bachelor’s degree with 3 or more years
of experience in a similar capacity.
- Experience with assistive technologies including the ability to resolve issues; ability to train students on use of assistive technologies.

Experience working with students with
disabilities, especially sensory and physical, in a post-secondary
educational setting.
Experience arranging and implementing
accommodations for students such as accessible course materials,
sign language interpreters, CART providers, and student
workers.
Strong verbal and written interpersonal
communication skills, as well as the ability to establish and
maintain effective working relationships with a range of
constituencies including faculty and administrators.
Ability to relate to individuals of
diverse abilities and backgrounds.

Strong time management, organizational
and planning skills with the ability to prioritize, and manage
competing priorities.
Strong commitment to confidentiality
and professionalism.
Knowledge and understanding of the
application of federal and state laws that provide for an
accessible higher education experience for disabled students.
Knowledge of models of disability and
inclusive educational design and their application in higher
education.

2 or more years’ experience working in
a higher education disability services office.
Experience assessing building and
classroom access.
Experience with Microsoft Office,
Windows 10, Apple OS10.x operating systems, Google docs, Microsoft
Exchange and Outlook and understanding of programs such as
Accommodate, PeopleSoft, Sharepoint and time collection.
