If so, the Research Computing department is looking for a Lead Research Data Management Analyst/Developer to join its team and guide the implementation and support of the TigerData service, a comprehensive set of data storage and management tools and services that provides storage capacity, reliability, functionality, and performance to campus. In this role, you partner with IT colleagues across campus, vendors, and researchers to design, implement, monitor, and administer vendor software, MediaFlux, that supports research data management and storage systems. You will be an expert at navigating the features and functionality of MediaFlux, providing direction and guidance to the evolution of the TigerData service and will be responsible for scripting and development required to monitor, support, and scale MediaFlux as TigerData grows. You are also responsible for troubleshooting system-level issues, as well as partnering with technical staff to upgrade and update MediaFlux as needed. Working closely with IT colleagues, the Library, the Office of the Dean for Research, and technical staff in University departments, you also provide timely and creative support for long term data storage and retrieval for research computing.



Responsibilities

  • Build and maintain relationships with key TigerData partners in Research Computing, OIT, the Library, and academic departments involved with the implementation of TigerData
  • Take a leadership role in the development and deployment of critical systems integrations to support research data and storage management using MediaFlux
  • Working with leadership and the Advanced Data and Storage Management team, implement the strategic roadmap and service model for continuous improvement and ongoing support
  • Mentor, train, and support colleagues in the strategic use of MediaFlux in the implementation of TigerData
  • Partnering with the Princeton Research Data Service and Research Data and Scholarship Service teams, align technical functionality of MediaFlux with data curation and management processes to support the data management lifecycle
  • Advise faculty and researchers on data intensive research and big data considerations
  • Understand the MediaFlux environment and API
  • Develop and maintain documentation related to data intensive research systems and storage
  • Using API, design, develop, and maintain configuration to support storage management, data movement, and metadata extraction based on the needs of the research community
  • Maintain and refine developed integrations configured to support data and storage management
  • Use scripting and programming tools (bash, Python, and Tcl) and perform basic debugging
  • Partner with the system administrator to assess and make recommendations for upgrades and improvements to the research systems installation and configuration
  • Scripting to manage the MediaFlux environment including; maintenance, monitoring, software updates, and data movement
  • Install, maintain, and administer the vended research data storage and retrieval system, MediaFluxs
  • Develop and apply best practices for configuring and operating data intensive research systems
  • Install, maintain, and support data archival and retrieval software, and schedulers on the systems
  • Monitor system and network health and performance
  • Manage and maintain vendor relationships
  • Keep abreast of emerging technologies related to data storage and movement


Qualifications

Essential Qualifications

  • 7+ years experience managing systems that process and store data including restricted use, confidential, and personally identifiable data in a secure and private manner
  • Experience with API and/or scripting languages (TCL, Python or Bash)
  • Experience administering and maintaining vended software, preferably middleware
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to respond promptly and professionally to customer requests
  • Demonstrated successes working in a collaborative environment, as well as independently
  • Ability to learn new systems beyond area of core knowledge
  • Ability to communicate effectively with a diverse user base having varied levels of technical proficiencies
  • Proactively seeks information and ideas from peers, supervisors, and customers
  • Ability to handle multiple priorities
  • Education: A bachelor’s degree (preference in science, information technology, mathematics, computer engineering, or a related computational field) or equivalent work experience. A Masters or Ph.D. in computer science or other related field, coupled with a strong computational focus, is preferred.
Preferred Qualifications

  • Expertise with big data system administration, installation, and troubleshooting
  • Experience with cloud storage solutions
  • Experience managing databases, for example MySQL, PostgreSQL
  • Experience in a research environment
