Job Description Summary
This is a full time research engineer position in the McKay Orthopaedic Research Laboratory of the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery at the University of Pennsylvania. The research focus of the group is on 3D bioprinting and cell engineering.
Research Specialist A Duties: The candidate will provide technical assistance to post-docs, graduate students, and research staff within the group. The candidate will be responsible for maintaining cell cultures and will be involved in lab scientific projects. The candidate will assist in preparing biomaterials and biochemical/mechanical assays for cell and tissue engineering related projects in the lab. The Research Specialist will carry out independent experiments under the supervision of the PI and other senior staff. These experiments will include production of biomaterials, production and culture of engineered constructs, 3D bioprinting, mechanical testing, histology, imaging (fluorescence, super-resolution microscope), and biochemical and molecular analyses. Other duties will include maintenance of laboratory equipment (including 3D bioprinters) and ordering supplies for the group. The position is contingent on continued funding.
Job Description
Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree and 0-1 year of experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience required.
The candidate must be self-motivated, reliable, responsible, and comfortable with quantitative and cell-based research methods. Previous experience in biomedical research is preferred. Good organization, communication, and writing skills are required. Computer literacy in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint is required, and some familiarity with computer networking and troubleshooting is a plus. 3D bioprinting experience is a significant plus
