Position Summary:
The Director of the Digital Learning Center is a member of the Learning Experience Design Team. The Director creates high performance teams of student-based staff and provides expertise to support the successful integration of technology into teaching and learning campus-wide, including, but not exclusive to, the Global Cultural Studies curriculum. The Director collaborates with Faculty, Instructional Designers, WITS, and Librarians to support the successful implementation of Student Learning Outcomes throughout academic programs across the university.

JOB DESCRIPTION
  • Maintains a vibrant, innovative environment in the center's physical space, the Digital Learning Studio, that supports all students, faculty and staff in the effective use of technologies for instructional purposes, including the university's global-minded language learning community.
  • Recruits, trains, and manages DLS student managers and assistants who directly support faculty and students in the support of DLS services and technologies.
  • Collaborates with instructional designers and other technology specialists to develop and implement engaging online courses (?) and multimedia content.
  • Collaborates with the Library and WITS User Services staff to encourage digital literacy and integration of technology in teaching and learning by developing and delivering documentation, workshops, and tutorials to help faculty and students use academic technology.
  • Coordinates training and support for the international Language Assistants and foreign language tutors, who work with students in need of remedial support.
  • Conducts research on emerging educational technologies and evaluates their potential for implementation within the institution.
  • Supports faculty in conceiving and designing digital assignments and supports students in completing digital assignments.
  • Maintains a strong connection with the faculty of language programs and cultural studies and with the faculty more broadly through the Academic Technology Advisory Committee, to ensure that the Center has a strong technological infrastructure and is responsive to changing curricular needs.
  • Oversees an ongoing planning process that facilitates the maintenance, repair, and upgrades of equipment so that the Center stays abreast of changes in technology and innovative pedagogy.
  • Other duties as required.


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • Master's degree or equivalent background in educational technology, digital studies, instructional technology, or related field.
  • 2 years of experience integrating technology into the teaching/learning process.
  • Thorough knowledge of language learning technologies, teaching methodologies, and multi-media technology skills.
  • 2+ years of experience with teaching with technology and/or teaching a second language required.
  • 2+ years of applicable experience in higher education required.
  • Deep engagement with relevant professional organizations that can enhance the effectiveness of the university's instructional technology.
  • Knowledge of academic technologies commonly used in higher education.
  • Ability to provide leadership in the area of instructional technology.
  • Demonstrated ability to design, create, and deliver instructional materials using appropriate development tools.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to adapt to rapidly changing technological environments.
  • Demonstrated ability to create high performing teams of student workers.
  • Basic familiarity with trends and topics in pedagogy, instructional design, and the scholarship of teaching and learning.
  • Skills in project management and documentation.
  • Strong teaching skills, both providing training in a workshop setting and giving technical assistance to individual faculty and students.
  • Interest in exploring emerging academic technologies.
  • Ability to reside in Oregon by first day of employment or otherwise perform work primarily in Oregon.


Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience working with distance or hybrid educational models
  • Experience with managing student workers
  • Expertise in Second Language Acquisition


Salary: $66,000 - $68,000
