Pay Range Information

Chapman University is required to provide a reasonable estimate of the compensation range for this position. This range takes into account a variety of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions, including experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. Salary offers are determined based on the final candidate’s qualifications and experience, as well as internal equity and other internal factors. The anticipated pay range is not a promise of a particular wage.

Job Description Summary

The Global Education Advisor within the Center for Global Education performs a variety of duties in support of the recruitment, pre-departure, while abroad, and re-entry phases of education abroad opportunities for Chapman students. Advise on a portfolio of programs including semester abroad, faculty-led, and international internships. The Global Education Advisor reports to the Assistant Director of Global Education and works closely with the entire Center for Global Education team to support office-wide strategic goals. Gain experience with other areas of office leadership including on-boarding, training and development, marketing, or social media.

Responsibilities

Global Education Advising
  • Serve as the designated global education advisor and point of contact to students within a specific college(s). Advise students on all outbound education abroad programs (semester abroad, faculty-led, and international internships), locations, processes, policies, billing, course credits, and procedures as it relates to student’s learning goals.
  • Coordinate and present individually or as part of a team at: campus events for current and prospective students and families; major-specific education abroad information sessions, pre-departure orientations, workshops and returnee events; workshops for potential and current faculty leaders.
  • Prepare and maintain accurate student records for education abroad programs within Terra Dotta Software.
  • Develop strategies to foster education abroad participation from underrepresented student populations and academic disciplines to align with Chapman demographics.
  • Support the Director and Assistant Director in risk management and emergency response for students abroad
  • Act as a point of contact for students, parents, faculty, and staff with respect to education abroad questions and issues while complying with FERPA regulations.
  • Provide input and implement education abroad marketing and communication strategies utilizing a variety of tools including classroom presentations, special events, and social media.

College Liaison
  • Build and maintain professional relationships with key academic advisors, career advisors, and faculty to gain a thorough understanding of specific degree programs and their requirements, as well as become familiar with all global education programs that could satisfy those requirements.
  • Identify program gaps in designated colleges and recommend new programs to fulfill academic needs.
  • Advocate for the integration of education abroad into the curriculum, the mission, and accreditation processes. Identify opportunities for academic collaborations and conduct activities in support of mutual goals.
  • Support University initiatives around equity, diversity, and inclusion and serve on a Chapman Diversity Project advisory group and/or campus committees

Program Support
  • Maintain a general knowledge of main components of each outbound education abroad program in CGE’s portfolio. Make recommendations regarding changes or adjustments to programs.
  • Represent the Center for Global Education in an official capacity to international and domestic partners.
  • Assist with the coordination of campus visits from international guests or partners.
  • Develop and enhance pre- and post-program opportunities for global education participants to facilitate deeper, continuous learning.
  • Maintain involvement with professional associations, including attending conferences, presenting, and/or volunteering for leadership roles.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree and a minimum of at least one year experience in international education, advising, or student services or an equivalent combination of education, training and work experience
  • Excellent written, verbal, and personal communication to work closely with staff, faculty, students, families, and international partners in a variety of settings and with high levels of professionalism and diplomacy.
  • Committed to working within a diverse environment and with students from diverse and underrepresented populations
  • Proficiency with MS Office Suite, including Outlook. Ability to act autonomously and take initiative to problem-solve
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and effectively prioritize; a customer focus which includes students, families, faculty, staff, and external partners; diplomacy and composure in stressful situations
  • Possess attention to detail, and willingness and interest in always seeking to improve upon processes and practices
  • Must be available to work occasional evening and weekend hours
Desired Qualifications
  • Experience in student or academic advising
  • Experience with Terra Dotta application management software
  • Demonstrated creative and relevant marketing skills
  • Master’s degree in a related field
  • Knowledge of current trends and development in international education or higher education
  • Experience studying, living, and/or working abroad
