The Cancer Genomics Laboratory at the Johns Hopkins Sidney Kimmel Comprehensive Cancer Center Department of Oncology is seeking applicants for aResearch Technologistposition in the Division of Cancer Genetics and Epigenetics. The lab studies cancer genomics, liquid biopsy approaches for detection of cancer and early detection of cancer with the goal of translating research from bench to bedside. The principal investigators in the Cancer Genomics Lab have a long history of working together collaboratively to publish high-impact studies. The Research Technologist will work under the supervision of a faculty investigator or postdoctoral fellow and will be responsible for laboratory maintenance and molecular biology experiments to support the ongoing projects in the lab. The ideal candidate will be a self-motivated individual with excellent work ethic and organizational skills.


Specific Duties & Responsibilities

  • Maintaining laboratory equipment, stocks, and supplies
  • Tracking and accessioning orders
  • Managing supply and reagent stocks
  • Preparing laboratory solutions and reagents
  • Coordinating bio-specimen retrieval and accessioning
  • Organizing sample and clinical data databases
  • Conducting clinical chart review
  • Following established procedures and protocols to support lab projects
  • Implementing basic understanding of theory behind experiments to carry out protocols and identify and trouble-shoot obstacles
  • Performing molecular biology experiments:

o DNA extraction from bio-specimens including plasma, buffy coat, and tumor tissue

o Library preparation for next-generation sequencing

o Nucleic acid quantification

  • Recording data resulting from molecular biology experiments
  • Analyzing data from molecular biology experiments
  • Communicating with lab members to coordinate work, share progress, and identify areas in need of troubleshooting


Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree in Biology, Chemistry or related field


Preferred Qualifications
  • Prior biomedical laboratory research experience
  • Some related post-undergraduate work experience
