Description

Walla Walla Community College (WWCC) is seeking applicants for a full-time CNC Machining Technology Instructor located at the Washington State Penitentiary in Walla Walla, Washington.

This position is filled to fulfill a contract awarded to Walla Walla Community College (WWCC) by the Washington State Board for Community and Technical Colleges (WSBCTC) to operate a correctional education program at WSP in accordance with an interagency agreement with the Department of Corrections. Walla Walla Community College and its employees working in a correctional education program are expected to follow all Department of Corrections (DOC) Policies, IT and other Security requirements, follow DOC Operational Memorandums, and comply with the Superintendent's directions.

General Description:

CNC Machining Technology is a 6-month cohort program that leads a student through curriculum that teaches the basics of CNC Operation and entry level programming, manufacturing processes, quality processes, manufacturing management, and entry level CAD/CAM programming and design. This program integrates industry-identified skill standards and assessment is required.

The workforce faculty at WWCC are innovative and passionate professionals focused on student success. We are seeking a creative and dynamic individual who will become an active and engaged member of our education team. This full-time position will teach 212 days a year face-to-face instruction with students at the Washington State Penitentiary.

Essential Functions:
  • Introduction to a variety of different machining trades.
  • Orient students to the objectives of the program: learning outcomes and assessment methods.
  • Basic Tools, Basic CNC Lathe and Mill, Advanced CNC and Mill, (Safe use of tools and machines for various trades).
  • Introduction to Worksite Behavior, Readiness and Safety (Jobsite setting, machine handling, Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion).
  • Math for the Trades Fundamentals (Including but not limited to: Fractions, percentages, measuring techniques, concepts of lineal ft, square ft and volume).
  • Maintain tool and material inventory in accordance with DOC policy and procedures.
  • Participate in conferences, seminars, and training sessions to keep abreast of developments in the field and integrate relevant information into training programs.
  • Observe and evaluate students' work to determine progress, provide feedback, and make suggestions for improvement.
  • Develop accurate standards to measure learning or administer testing or other evaluations to determine effectiveness and ensure a high level of comprehension has been achieved.
  • Communicate and work effectively with the college advisory committee.

  • Qualifications:

    Required:
  • Five (5) years of recent journey level industry experience. Up to 2 years equivalent education/experience may substitute for journey level experience.
  • Recent experience with manufacturing processes, quality processes, and manufacturing management
  • Experience with CAD/CAM and CNC production shop practices

  • Preferred:
  • Strong computer skills including working knowledge of the Microsoft Office Suite especially MS Word and PowerPoint
  • Post-secondary vocational certificate OR experience and training to qualify for vocational certification
  • Previous experience teaching in adult education, high school, or industry
  • Experience using industry skill standards for curriculum development and assessment


  • Conditions/Terms of Employment

    This is a full-time 212-day tenure-track faculty position is located inside the Washington State Penitentiary, an adult male prison. Interacts daily with students (incarcerated individuals), instructors, counselors, DOC, and WWCC staff. Successful candidate must have the ability to travel between buildings with or without accommodations. Washington State Penitentiary is fully ADA compliant. The campus is tobacco free institution.

    Faculty terms and conditions of employment are negotiated with their exclusive bargaining representative, the Association for Higher Education. A complete copy of the agreement can be found on the WWCC Employment Page.

    Persons hired must be able to provide acceptable documentation of lawful authorization to work in the United States within three (3) days of employment and official college transcripts. All Walla Walla Community College staff members employed at one of the Correction Education facilities must be cleared by an FBI background check before being hired into such positions and successfully complete a 3-week corrections training program. Information from the background check may not necessarily preclude employment but will be considered in determining the applicant's suitability and competence to perform in the position. The College is a tobacco-free campus.

    Compensation: The College has a negotiated faculty salary schedule. Employee placement on the schedule is determined by education level and experience. Salary is dependent on the number of days of the contract and the candidate's placement on the negotiated faculty salary schedule. Initial placement is generally $71,243 - $86,206 for a standard 212-day contract, dependent on qualifications (additional compensation for doctorate degree). The College has a comprehensive faculty benefit program including medical, dental, life, and long-term disability insurance; paid sick leave; and retirement and two optional deferred compensation programs. All full-time employees will automatically have 3% of taxable income deferred into the State of Washington Deferred Compensation Program (DCP). The college also supports faculty professional development. Walla Walla Community College requires all employees to participate in direct deposit for payment of salary.
