Description

Walla Walla Community College (WWCC) is seeking applicants to create a pool of Adjunct Clinical Nursing Instructors to teach in the clinical setting at the Clarkston campus. Applications in this pool will remain active through December 31, 2022.

This position is eligible for a Nursing Educator retention bonus of $1,000 per quarter and a signing bonus of $1,000 per quarter, which will be paid on top of the quarterly compensation for teaching.

General Responsibilities:

Faculty members are professional educators with the primary responsibility of providing a quality education for all WWCC students. The relationship of the faculty member to the student is one of teacher, mentor, and facilitator of learning. These positions report to the lead faculty and will be responsible to teach assigned clinical groups, prepare teaching material specific to the clinical agency (as appropriate), assign clinical performance grades, maintain records, and consult with students as required by the lead faculty. Assist full-time instructors in instruction, clinical, and advising of LPN/ADN students.

Essential Functions:

Teaching
  • Plan, prepare, and organize a variety of teaching/learning strategies and instructional materials for use in the clinical setting.
  • Supervise and facilitate positive learning experiences for students.
  • Evaluate students' performance on a systematic basis.
  • Prepare and maintain student records related to learning activities.
  • Assure provision of safe, quality nursing care by students per established standards of care and agency policies/protocols
  • Maintain availability to assist students with learning needs during the clinical experience. Establish times and means of availability to students outside the clinical setting.

  • Advising
  • Refer students to their academic advisor as needed.
  • Facilitate debriefings with students, as needed, in association with student clinical experience.

  • Program Participation (as contract allows)
  • Interact with team teaching members to plan, implement, and evaluate clinical education in the nursing program.
  • Interact with agency personnel to coordinate and provide appropriate clinical experiences for students

  • College Service (as contact allows)
  • Promote community awareness of Walla Walla Community College Nursing Program.
  • Promote positive, professional relationships with agency nursing staff and educational partners.

  • Professional Development
  • Participate in professional organizations (voluntary)
  • Maintain proficiency in clinical nursing education and clinical practice.
  • Attend selected professional development activities, as required, to maintain licensure and competency.


  • Competencies

  • With supervision by full-time faculty, have the ability to effectively combine an array of methods to enhance understanding, including demonstrations, lectures, group discussions and activities, individual activities, etc. Understand which teaching methods best serve the student's needs, interests, and ability to learn.
  • With supervision by full-time nursing faculty, have the ability to develop accurate standards to measure learning or administer testing or other evaluations to determine effectiveness and ensure a high level of comprehension has been achieved.
  • Ability to build constructive working relationships characterized by a high level of acceptance, cooperation and mutual respect.
  • Ability to recognize the value of cultural, ethnic, gender and other individual differences in people.

  • Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in nursing and 3 years nursing work experience required.
  • Registered or eligible to be a Registered Nurse in Washington and Idaho state required.
  • Experience in medical-surgical nursing required.
  • Master's degree in nursing desired.


  • Conditions/Terms of Employment

    WWCC is no longer required to collect COVID -19 vaccine information, however, some hospitals, clinics, and other healthcare institutions where WWCC Nursing faculty may conduct business in, may require the COVID-19 and other vaccinations.

    This is a part-time instruction assignment contingent on enrollment and located at the Clarkston Campus. Persons hired must be able to provide acceptable documentation of lawful employment to work in the United States within three (3) days of employment and provide transcripts. Candidates may be subject to a criminal history background check as a condition of employment. Information from the background check may not necessarily preclude employment but will be considered in determining the applicant's suitability and competence to perform in the position. The college is a tobacco free institution.

    Compensation:

    Compensation for adjunct instruction is contingent on enrollment and paid in accordance with the contract between the WWCC Board of Trustees and the WWCC Association for Higher Education. Placement on the faculty salary schedule will commensurate with the educational background and experience per the Faculty Negotiated Agreement (Download PDF reader). Refer to Appendix D for the part-time salary schedule. This position is eligible for a Nursing Educator retention bonus of $1,000 per quarter and a signing bonus of $1,000 per quarter, which will be paid on top of the quarterly compensation for teaching. The stipend and signing bonus are exclusively contingent upon State funding appropriated by the College.
