The VMI Center for Cadet Counseling (CCC) is seeking candidates for a full-time Director position. This position reports to the Deputy Superintendent for Finance and Support and has primary administrative and clinical responsibility for all operations of the center.

 

 

 

Job Duties:

Essential Functions – Administrative

  • Responsible for administration and supervision of staff of the CCC.
  • Maintain accreditation for the CCC with the International Association of Counseling Services (IACS).
  • Organize and prepare annual budget for the center, identifying priorities for funding and making recommendations for annual increases.
  • In consultation with VMI Administration and CCC staff, develop and articulate mission and strategic direction of the CCC.
  • Organize and implement continuing staff development programs including professional development opportunities, continuing education credits, and the development of a professional library.
  • Development and administration of policies and procedures designed to both monitor and improve the quality of clinical, outreach, and consultative services rendered by the CCC.
  • Recruit, train, develop, and evaluate counseling and support staff.
  • Represent the CCC at Institute-wide meetings across Post and as assigned.
  • Conduct research as necessary regarding cadet learning outcomes, outcome assessment, and cadet satisfaction with services.  Support on-going research into mental health needs of students, including participation in national surveys of college student mental health.
  • Develop and maintain effective professional relationships between the CCC and various departments across Post (i.e. Commandant’s office; Academic Departments, ROTC, etc.).
  • Participate actively in national meetings addressing college student mental health including the Association for University and College Counseling Center Directors.
  • Oversight of Cadet Health and Wellness programs and events.
  • Participate in Institute-wide committee service to include the Violence Prevention Committee, the Threat Assessment Team, and the Institutional Review Board.   
  • Participate as Chairperson of the Institute Alcohol & Other Drugs Committee. Perform other duties as assigned by the Deputy Superintendent for Finance and Support. 

 

Essential Functions – Clinical

  • Conduct individual supervision with staff as necessary.
  • Train new faculty and staff with regard to at-risk prevention, education, and referral resources.
  • Provide intake assessments and individual therapy with cadets.
  • Provide on-call after hours coverage.
  • Provision of Consultation to cadets, faculty, staff, and parents.
  • Development, presentation, and evaluation of outreach programming.
  • Assists in new cadet retention and out processing activities.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • A master’s degree in counseling, psychology, or a closely related field required.  Licensed in the Commonwealth of Virginia. Demonstrated understanding of adherence to ethical codes and applicable state and federal laws regarding the provision of mental health services. Experience leading, supervising, and motivating multi-disciplinary clinical staff. Experience with managing administrative and financial processes—including developing and managing operating budgets. Experience fostering diverse and inclusive environments and establishing positive, productive working relationships with diverse groups of constituents. Experience providing clinical services to a college-aged population. Experience with developing and delivering creative/innovative student mental health programs.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • A doctorate in clinical or counseling psychology from an APA accredited institution.  Experience with IACS accreditation standards. Experience using technology to enhance the delivery of psychological services. Experience using Titanium Electronic Healthcare Records.  Prior experience as a director for a college or university counseling center.
