Building Maintenance Technician

Job Summary

To provide the general carpentry and painting skills necessary to perform new construction, alterations, remodeling, maintenance and repair of new and existing structures and areas.

Essential Functions

• Ability to drywall, hang wallpaper and complete taping.
• Handle and manipulate heavy and sometimes awkward materials, such as hanging of a door and installing a shelving unit.
• Perform the labor incidental to and necessary for the painting of all types of buildings, interior and exterior as well as allied structures as a skilled painter.
• Perform carpentry work in the alteration, repair, remodeling, and maintenance of new and existing structures and areas, indoors and outdoors.
• Perform preventive maintenance work.
• Assist with estimates of time and materials.
• Report all repairs needed when discovered.
• Occasional supervision of student help and outside tradesmen as required.
• Know and follow prescribed safety rules.
• Clean up job sites daily.
• Perform all other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

• Skill in the usage of tools and equipment needed to perform the duties outlined above.
• Willingness to work overtime as needed, including weekends.
• Ability to work well with students, faculty, staff, and the general public.
• Physically able to perform all tasks, including heavy lifting.
• Ability to perform actions of digging, shoveling, raking, and climbing stairs and ladders.
• Ability to lift 50 lbs.
• Valid driver’s license and ability to obtain a Class C license.
• Criminal background screening required for all employees.

Preferred Qualifications

Working Conditions/Physical Requirements

Employee is subject to both indoor and outdoor environmental conditions (temperatures varying from below 32 degrees to over 90 degrees) for periods of over one hour, subject to hazards such as proximity to moving parts, electrical current, etc., and involves heavy work exerting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or in excess of 50 pounds frequently, and/or up to 20 pounds of force constantly in order to move objects. Must be able to climb stairs and ladders and lift 50 pounds.
