Groton School, one of the country’s leading independent secondary schools, seeks a Slate Database Specialist who will develop, manage, and maintain the Admission Office’s database, take primary responsibility for the generation of reports, lead the instruction of Admission personnel in the use of Slate, and assist in the numerous activities involved in the smooth operation of a secondary school’s Admission Office.

This position differs from others that require only technical expertise in that it involves interaction with many members of the school community including student tour guides, admission counselors, teachers, and the Headmaster. Groton thrives through teamwork. The Slate Database Specialist plays a vital role in advancing Groton’s preeminence as an institution whose substantial financial aid budget and emphasis on inclusion leads to the enrollment of a diverse and talented student body.

Responsibilities

  • Manage the Admission Office’s Slate database to ensure data accuracy, integrity, and security
  • Implement and maintain new and existing Slate functionality including forms, events, imports, and rules
  • Oversee admission-related, student and athletics portals
  • Create and manage user accounts, roles, and permissions
  • Address database issues by resolving inconsistencies, cleaning data, and addressing user-related issues
  • Stay informed on the latest Slate updates and best practices
  • With the IT department, develop and maintain data security policies and procedures
  • Write and maintain Slate queries and reports and provide relevant data to other departments, when needed
  • Train and support Admission Office staff in the use of Slate and related tools
  • Assist visits coordinator with visitors, tour guides, and prefects and provide back up support for other administrative personnel as needed
  • Create, process, and maintain school application records
  • Provide customer service by phone, email and in person
  • Work with Gateway, SSAT, TOEFL, IELTS and Slate systems to ensure smooth application and communication processes
  • Attend Admission Office events and receptions occasionally beyond regular business hours
  • Serve as Visits Coordinator on approximately one-third of Saturday mornings from September through January

Qualifications

 

  • Bachelor’s Degree in a related field preferred, or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience
  • Experience with Technolutions Slate software, ideally in a non-profit organization, preferably in higher education or an independent secondary school
  • Important skills include queries, import/export/DIP, portal creation, data mapping, API integration with other Slate-supported admission solutions, reporting, forms creation
  • Strong analytical, communication, and collaboration skills
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills, including knowledge of formula creation and pivot tables ; familiarity with Google Suite
  • A commitment to data integrity, consistency, and confidentiality
