About this Opportunity

Ball State University’s Department of Physics & Astronomy has an amazing opportunity for a new Laboratory Manager. In this role the successful applicant will oversee the operation and safety of classroom labs, manage equipment purchases and the stockroom, and support faculty with their teaching and research when appropriate.

Position Function

Ensure the smooth and efficient operation of the Physics and Astronomy stockroom and labs each semester by direct supervision and interaction along with providing critical technical support to faculty members while maintaining safety standards. Instruct labs as directed by the department chairperson. Supervise graduate and undergraduate teaching assistants in the Department of Physics and Astronomy. Assist with student research as needed.

Minimum Education

Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Physics or closely related field.

Minimum Experience

One year of related experience with strong laboratory experience.

Minimum Other

Must be able to lift up to 50lbs. This position will also require the ability to stand and walk for several hours a day. Must be available to work occasional nights and weekends.

Authorization to work in the US

Candidates for searches must have current authorization to be employed in the U.S. without employer sponsorship.

Master’s degree

Preferred Experience

Three years of related experience with strong laboratory experience.

Job Duty

Directly supervise graduate and undergraduate teaching assistants. Assign teaching assistants to lab sections, provide instruction to prepare teaching assistants to teach labs, provide feedback on performance.
