DIVISION: Academic
UNIT: DiMenna-Nyselius Library
BASIC FUNCTION: Coordinates the development, implementation, promotion, and assessment of the Library’s research services. Provides leadership in the development and implementation of Library programming that creates opportunities for intellectual conversation and ideation. Provides research support. Participates in the Library’s Faculty Partnership Program.
UNUSUAL WORK CONDITIONS: Physical requirements: mobility; must be able to lift materials off shelf. Availability for evening and weekend work, as needed, is required.
EDUCATION: Graduate degree in Library & Information Science (MLS or equivalent) from an ALA accredited program, second master’s in subject specific field or equivalent related experience is preferred.
ESSENTIAL EXPERIENCE: Two or more years of professional academic librarian experience required. Demonstrated ability to coordinate the development, implementation, promotion, and assessment of research services. Demonstrated ability to develop and implement programming that creates opportunities for intellectual conversation and ideation. Must be able to meet deadlines and multiple demands. Demonstrated ability to communicate, both orally and in writing, to a variety of audiences. Ability to interact effectively and work productively, cooperatively, and collaboratively with a variety of individuals and groups across the University. Must be results-oriented, flexible, self-motivated, and have an ability to collaborate with colleagues in a goal-oriented library team. Ability to use technology in creative ways to solve problems and/or facilitate workflows. Creative approach to the development of new services and commitment to responsive and innovative service is essential. Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion.

SUPERVISION OF PERSONNEL: 4-5 part-time research librarians
REPORTS TO: Associate Dean for Public Services & Coordinator of the Academic Commons Partnership
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Coordinates the development, implementation, promotion, and assessment of the Library’s research services. This includes:
- working with the Associate Dean for Public Services to develop
and implement research policies and procedures,
- overseeing quality control of research services,
- providing for the continuity of research services across
modalities and geographic locations,
- training and communicating with part-time research staff,
- scheduling research services,
- working with the Head of Systems on public-facing components of
the integrated library system.
- developing and implementing student study skills
workshops,
- working with faculty partnership program librarians to identify
programming opportunities and need,
- developing and implementing workshops and events for faculty,
staff, and alumni,
- working with the Research & Learning Librarian at
Bellarmine campus to ensure continuity of academic programming
across campuses.
- providing in-person and online research assistance,
- conducting assessment of research services,
- aiding in the development of departmental policies and
procedures,
- creating online research guides and tutorials,
- collaborating with part-time research and access services
staff.
- building and maintaining professional, collaborative
relationships with faculty,
- developing an understanding of faculty teaching and research
needs,
- keeping abreast of discipline specific resources, tools, and
trends,
- conducting information literacy sessions and assessing student
learning outcomes,
- working with the Collection Strategies Librarian to develop and
assess collections,
- collaborating with colleagues to create services and programs
that support student learning, and faculty research and
teaching,
- working with faculty and the Library’s Teaching & Learning
Coordinator to develop and integrate curricular scaffolding into
undergraduate and graduate programs based on the ACRL
Framework,
- promoting library services and resources to faculty,
- attending meetings, events and learning opportunities hosted by
academic departments.
- recruiting, hiring, and training staff,
- coaching and mentoring staff, as appropriate,
- meeting with all staff members individually and as a
department/unit on a regular basis,
- overseeing the flow and quality of work, and schedules for
staff,
- communicating effectively with staff concerning department and
library-wide matters,
- evaluating staff performance.

- communicating effectively with supervisor concerning pertinent
Library and/or University matters,
- assisting in the discussion and formulation of policies and
procedures,
- keeping current with developments in job
responsibilities,
- acting as a responsible participant in staff, committee, and/or
task force meetings,
- attending and participating in Library and University
events,
- monitoring developments in librarianship through attendance at
meetings and workshops, membership in professional associations,
and the reading of professional literature,
- promoting and communicating the value of the Library to the
community.
