Pay Range

The compensation for this appointment will range from $29.62 to $34.62 hourly and reflects what California Baptist University reasonably expects to pay for this staff appointment. Actual compensation may vary based on the qualifications and experience of the applicant, as well as market conditions. In addition to wages, CBU offers a robust suite of employee benefits.

Position Summary Information

Summary

The Assistant Director of Chapel assists in the management of operations of CBU Chapel programs and leads the CBU community in worship that demonstrates a richness of biblical theology to direct the hearts and minds of worshipers to the glory of God, the preeminence of Christ, and the power of the gospel to ensure that the program provides dynamic, Christ-centered times of worship that encourage spiritual growth by performing the following duties.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  1. Provides spiritual, musical, and worship leader development for students who serve on the Chapel worship team.
  2. Researches, arranges, and selects worship music that meets CBU stands of biblical theology.
  3. Plans and crafts times of worship that are biblically sound and spiritually edifying in collaboration with the Director of Chapel and Dean of Spiritual Life.
  4. Incorporates music and other worship elements that are stylistically diverse to accommodate the variety of worship styles represented by the campus community. Works closely with the School of Performing Arts.
  5. Leads the CBU community in the worship of God through worship music appropriate to the setting and /or occasion, reading of Scripture, and explanation of biblical concepts of worship and prayer.
  6. Manages and serves as the instructor of record for the online Alternative Chapel Program.
  7. Manages the review process and approval of Alternative Chapel applications.
  8. Manages the collection, recording, and administrative processing of Alternative Chapel credit for the purpose of grade submissions.
  9. Administers resolution and accommodation processes for Chapel credit cases.
  10. Schedules Chapel worship team members (instrumentalists and vocalists) and additional musicians for Chapels and weekly rehearsals.
  11. Plans and leads Chapel worship team weekly rehearsals, taking time to teach and explain concepts of biblical worship.
  12. Collaborates closely with the Director of Media Production (and Media Production staff) to ensure equality technical support for Chapel services.
  13. Recruits, interviews, and auditions students for the Chapel worship team.


Supervisory Responsibilities

This position will be responsible for assigning work and/or giving direction to professional staff and part-time Student Workers, in order to complete work assignments.

  • Ability to maintain confidentiality.
  • Excellent telephone courtesy, knowledge and experience.
  • Ability to coordinate and organize meetings, and/or special events.
  • Knowledge of standard budgeting, expenditure control procedures and documentation.
  • Ability to interpret, adapt, and apply guidelines and procedures.
  • Ability to create, compose, and edit written materials.
  • Knowledge of general accounting principles.
  • Ability to develop and maintain record keeping systems and procedures.
  • Ability to resolve customer complaints and concerns.
  • Ability to investigate and analyze information and to draw conclusions.
  • Membership in a Southern Baptist Church required.
Education and/or Experience

Bachelor’s degree from four-year College or university; or one to two years’ related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
