Scope of Job:
Provide administrative leadership to the Office of Educator Preparation and Accountability (OEPA) in the areas of educator admissions, certification, and accountability reporting.

Description of Duties:
• Supervises all major functions of the office, including but not limited to: admissions to Educator Preparation Program (EPP), guidance on certification processes, certification testing approval, and recommending candidates for certification to the SBEC upon completion of program requirements.
• Evaluates processes and procedures to ensure high quality customer satisfaction, timely responses to inquiries, and adherence to university, college, and TEA guidelines.
• Ensures appropriate supports are in place to assist students applying for admission into initial teacher certification programs and professional class certifications and manages the processing of applications.
• Provides guidance to candidates for certification of the appropriate State of Texas examinations required for educator certification and recommends qualified candidates for the Texas Education Certificate.
• Develops, implements and monitors systems for the management and monitoring of clinical teaching/internship, while adhering to state and district requirements.
• Evaluates the approval and placement of candidates in clinical teaching and clinical teaching/internship courses.
• Collaborates closely with the Office of Field Experiences to ensure all field experiences and clinical teaching requirements are in compliance with Texas Administrative Code.
• Oversees and participates in the hiring, training, and evaluation of OEPA staff.
• Support the Office of Field Experiences in establishing P-12 partnerships maintaining a full roster of school district placements for the EPP’s educator certification candidates.
• Communicates regularly with Federal, State and local agencies: DOE, TEA, SBEC, and school districts and provides data as required for accreditation, state and federal reports and mandates.
• Represents the OEPA at the University, college, and department levels, as well as at state and national levels.
• Serves as the EPP’s Certification Officer and ensures that the UTRGV EPP is in compliance with Texas Administrative Code.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Supervision Received:
General supervision from assigned supervisor.

Supervision Given:
Direct supervision of assigned staff.

Required Education:
Master’s degree in education or a related field from an accredited university.

Preferred Education:
Doctorate degree in education or a related field from an accredited university.

Licenses/Certifications:
None.

Required Experience:
Five (5) years of supervisory, teaching program management, and/or equivalent experience in education.

Preferred Experience:
• Experience in building and maintaining university to P-12 school partnerships and relationships.
• Experience training and supervising pre- or in-service teachers.
• Experience in applying federal, state and university policies.
• Experience establishing monitoring controls to ensure effective student tracking systems.
• Experience collaborating across departments within and outside the institution

Equipment:
Use of standard office equipment.

Working Conditions:
Needs to be able to successfully perform all required duties. Office environment; some travel and weekend work is required.

Exceptional planning and organizational skills. Ability to work with students, faculty, staff, and administrators. Effective communication with all stakeholders.
