About the Opportunity

Northeastern University's Multidisciplinary Graduate Engineering (MGEN) Department focuses on producing more effective engineers who are substantially more capable than ever of addressing the needs of digital society in terms of time, cost, and quality. The unit seeks highly motivated applicants, committed to teaching excellence and program growth/development, for the role of Program Director at our campus in Boston, MA. In this role, the Program Director will report directly to the Executive Director of the MGEN unit. The selected candidate is responsible for the unit's Telecommunication Networks (and other) academic programs within the department, university, and across the global network; and is expected to teach, advise, as well as identify new and trending industry subjects for curriculum advancement. The Program Director will focus on creating and facilitating growth of the unit's new programs and those programs with high growth potential across the network. The Program Director is responsible for programmatic strategic planning, supervision, and coordination to ensure alignment with university, college, global network, unit goals, academic programs, and resources. The Program Director will report to the Executive Director of the MGEN unit and collaborate across the department. The successful candidate will be expected to administer core and elective courses. The successful candidate will also incorporate hands on instructional elements (i.e. programming code, etc.) for graduate-level engineering curriculum into courses and the courses of the applicable programs. The Program Director will supervise the implementation of innovative approaches to distributed learning across the network. The selected candidate will plan and design the communication infrastructure and protocols needed across the network to support the distributed learning model. The Program Director will work to identify industry trends and work to develop new programs and other interdisciplinary initiatives in cooperation with the College of Engineering (i.e. new degree programs, certificates, course subjects, pathways, etc.). In addition, the Program Director will supervise the development of state-of-the-art course offerings that align with emerging industry trends, program analysis, program improvement projects, and overall program growth initiatives across the network. The Program Director is responsible for developing and growing the enrollment targets for the units' programs across the network. The individual in this role will supervise and spearhead program planning and execution throughout the global network level, ensuring consistency and best practice application across programs regardless of geographic location. The selected candidate will facilitate the establishment of connections with industry and alumni to advance the University's vision for global networks. The Program Director will work collaboratively with College of Engineering units to align academic operations and student advising across the network. Additional duties associated with this role include, but are not limited to, the following:
  • Supervises curriculum development and other planning for the program taking into account current policy and procedures. This responsibility includes reviewing/updating all marketing materials and published documents. The program director is responsible for facilitating appropriate accreditation of the program and evaluation of the success of the programs across the network.
  • The Program Director will develop and maintain cooperative and collaborative relationships, activities, and communication with other programs within the college and across the network.
  • The Program Director is responsible for building and maintaining strong relationships with alumni and employers to foster connection with programs located across the network, as these will be beneficial to program evaluation and growth activities.
  • Instruct and prepare students to improve relevance, rigor, and quality through teachings and course offerings
  • Counsel students on academic advising and other academic matters
  • And other duties as required.

    Qualifications:

    The ideal candidate will have a PhD in Software Engineering, Computer Science, and Electrical Engineering with emphasis on the following industry experience and/or research in areas such as: data networking, wireless communications, software defined networks, network virtualization, infrastructure automation, network security, Internet of Things, unified communications, network operations and management, network core infrastructure, cloud networking, optical networks, mobile networks, Open RANs, 4G/5G communications and networks. Additionally, the successful candidate will exhibit a commitment to teaching excellence, an ability to handle multiple responsibilities concurrently, possess excellent written and oral communication skills, and proven ability to lead, innovate, and work independently in a fast-paced and dynamic environment is required. The ideal candidate for this role will possess 5+ years of experience with terminal credentials or 15-20 years of industry experience with no terminal credentials; and have experience working with diverse student populations.
