Open Rank: Assistant/Associate/Full Professor - Multidisciplinary/Quantum Initiative

About the Opportunity

Responsibilities:

Northeastern University invites applications for multiple open positions at all levels as a major interdisciplinary and cross-college hiring effort under its new Quantum Initiative. The goal of this initiative is to enable Northeastern to assume global leadership in use-inspired quantum science, engineering, educational and societal impact programs. We seek exceptional, game-changing applicants in quantum information sciences, quantum and qubit materials and devices, quantum-enabled sensing, room-temperature quantum materials, quantum communications, and quantum-enabled networks, IoT, energy and other technologies impacting global health, security, and sustainability. The initiative intends to bring eminent scholars and rising faculty stars into a vibrant new research facility with state-of-the-art experimental and computational infrastructure.

Of special interest are the science and engineering of quantum and qubit materials for developing next-generation quantum sensors, devices and systems based on the manipulation of spin, light, quasiparticles, and other novel approaches with high potential for disruptive metrology, spectroscopy, imaging, and related areas. Theoretical, computational, and experimental frontiers of practical room-temperature quantum materials including high quality quantum/qubit materials synthesis (e.g., MBE, MOCVD) and characterizations (e.g., ARPES, STM, ultrafast techniques), machine-learning-optimized electronic and photonic device architectures, efficient integration of disparate quantum systems, and developing scalable manufacturing approaches are also of interest.

Quantum-enabling areas of research such as machine/deep learning and AI that advance quantum materials and device research, quantum algorithms and software, advanced devices, systems and manufacturing, novel applications of quantum sciences in physical, chemical, biological, and other science and engineering fields, as well as new quantum-impacting directions including (but not limited to) entrepreneurship, law, art, social sciences, humanities, and education are all areas of interest.

Qualifications:

A Ph.D. in a relevant quantum or quantum-synergistic discipline, or in an interdisciplinary area of relevance is required by the start date. Successful candidates will be expected to develop strong research programs and to excel in teaching both our undergraduate and graduate offerings. Candidates interested in developing new curricula in quantum information science and engineering and related disciplines as well as in cross-disciplinary and beyond-traditional disciplines are encouraged to apply.

Preferred Qualifications:

Outstanding candidates at all levels will be considered. Candidates should be committed to fostering diverse and inclusive environments as well as to promoting experiential learning, which are central to Northeastern University education
