Position Definition:
To perform routine preventive maintenance and minor repair to electrical, plumbing, swimming pools and mechanical systems.

Distinguishing Characteristics:
Equipment Maintenance Worker - Positions in this classification are task focused and require a general understanding of a wide variety of electrical, plumbing, swimming pools and mechanical systems.

Equipment Maintenance Worker, Senior - Positions in this classification have skilled knowledge of a wide variety of electrical, plumbing, swimming pools and mechanical systems and provide guidance and instruction on techniques, methods and procedures for accomplishing assigned tasks and solving problems.

Examples of Duties/Essential Functions:
Duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:
Performs preventive maintenance on a variety of mechanical equipment; lubricates bearings and motors, changes filters and drive belts, lubricates and adjusts dampers.
Troubleshoots and repairs power distribution and emergency systems, control wiring, lighting, communication systems and clocks.
Repairs and replace faucets, flush valves, sink drains and drinking fountains; cleans clogged drains and replaces traps.
Replaces and maintains motors, bearings, pumps, fan assemblies, thermostats and pulleys.
Performs preventative maintenance, troubleshooting and repair on swimming pool, including repairing broken deck concrete, broken tile and holes in the bottom of the pools; repairs or replaces pipes in the pool circulation system.
Maintains cleanliness of pool facility; maintains and logs chemical balance of pool water.
Back washes pool filter system and replaces filter elements; adjusts and repairs automatic pool vacuums; performs shut down of pools for winter.
Troubleshoots and repairs fire alarm system, including above- and under-ground wiring.
Conducts and aids in the testing of the campus fire alarm system routinely and performs repairs to insure proper function.
Assists with boiler maintenance; flushes, cleans and repairs leaks.
Assists with installation projects, including light poles, electrical circuits and light fixtures.
Assists contractors in performing a variety of electrical, plumbing and mechanical maintenance.
Inventories supplies and equipment.
Prepares reports of work performed and materials used.
Supervises and trains student workers on assigned tasks.
Performs related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:
Education/Experience:
EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING
Three (3) years of experience in equipment maintenance and repair.

EDUCATION/LICENSE OR CERTIFICATE
Possession of a high school diploma/GED or the equivalent.
Possession of, or ability to obtain, an appropriate, valid California driver’s license.
Possession of, or ability to obtain, an appropriate, valid swimming pool operators certificate.

Knowledge Of:
Knowledge of:
Tools, equipment and procedures used in minor repair and adjustment of a variety of building facilities and equipment.
Methods used in performing preventive maintenance on mechanical equipment.
Methods, materials, tools and equipment used in swimming pool maintenance work.
Use and maintenance of a variety of power hand tools.
Safe work practices.
Fire alarm system troubleshooting and repair.
Industrial and commercial electrical systems.

Inspect, locate and repair plumbing, electrical and mechanical defects.
Maintain, troubleshoot and repair a variety of HVAC equipment in use by the District.
Use the tools and equipment necessary in the repair and maintenance of mechanical equipment.
Perform all maintenance required for proper functioning of a large swimming pool.
Read and interpret blueprints and schematics.
Troubleshoot and repair a variety of lighting fixtures
Understand and follow oral and written instructions.
Adapt to changing conditions and learn new procedures involved with the maintenance of a large facility.
Establish and maintain cooperative work relationships with those contacted in the performance of required duties.
Perform heavy physical labor, including lifting and moving items weighing up to 50 pounds.
Demonstrate understanding of, sensitivity to, and respect for the diverse academic, socio-economic, race, ethnicity, gender identity, sexual orientation, age, mental or physical disability, and religious background of all students, faculty and staff, and with all individuals encountered in the performance of required duties.

Desirable Qualifications:
Minimum of 3 years of maintenance and minor repairs of a variety of building facilities and equipment.

Knowledge of general electrical, plumbing and HVAC systems.

Troubleshoot and perform installation, mechanical maintenance, or repairs on motors, pumps, boilers, and HVAC equipment.

Perform braising and soldering piping for general plumbing or HVAC systems.

Troubleshoot electrical circuits, thermostats, duct dampers, and other various equipment.
