Job Description:


Germanna Community College is a public, open access institution of higher education in the Virginia Community College System. The College is a dynamic learning organization that serves as a Germanna regional leader and preferred partner where quality learning experiences enable students to participate effectively in the social, economic, political, intellectual, and cultural life of their communities. Germanna Community College is centrally located in Fredericksburg, VA between Washington D.C. and Richmond and between the Blue Ridge mountains and the Chesapeake Bay. Full of history, the area offers a community rich with diversity, the arts, technology, vineyards, hiking, canoeing/kayaking, and many other activities.

Germanna is currently searching for a Webmaster who will support the college within the Marketing & Recruitment department by maintaining and developing the college website, working with internal clients to identify business requirements and uses for the college website, tracking and reporting website performance metrics, and developing new website solutions and features as needed. This position is fully remote.

Development
  • Develop new website pages and sections
  • Develop new website functionality to support college goals
  • Ensure website functionality continues to work at a high quality, troubleshooting, as needed, to address any issues
  • Act as primary contact for hosting and agency partners
  • Maintain CMS environment

Content Management
  • Working with internal clients, update existing content on website pages
  • Create and maintain process for receiving and managing website-related requests from across the college
  • Use best practices around accessibility and usability to translate content into native website content
  • Provide support, as needed, in the case of emergency communications

Metrics and Reporting
  • Manage and maintain website analytics tools
  • Identify and track key performance indicators to access health of the website
  • Provide regular reporting out on key performance indicators

Website Accessibility
  • Manage and maintain college website accessibility assessment tool to ensure accurate state of accessibility across the site
  • Identify and prioritize key accessibility issues and develop timelines, resources, and solutions to address

Customer Support
  • Provide support for diverse group of internal users
  • Consult and identify businesses requirements and appropriate solutions for college department needs
  • Provide and maintain technical and training documentation

Special Assignments:

KSA's/Required Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree in business, marketing, communications, computer science; or related degree with some coursework in information systems or computer programming; or equivalent training and work experience in information technology
  • Strong knowledge of front-end web technologies including HTML, JS, and CSS
  • Demonstrated experience using CMS technologies including WordPress, Drupal, or related solutions
  • Knowledge of accessibility and usability best practices
  • Experience using Google Analytics and Search Console Tools
  • Knowledge of computer programming languages such as PHP
  • Ability to develop and present technical content to a diverse, non-technical client base including faculty, staff, administrators, consultants, and students
  • Commitment to working with diverse colleagues, students, and community members
  • Demonstrable commitment to promoting and enhancing equity, inclusion, and diversity


Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience using frameworks such as Bootstrap or Zurb Foundation
  • Knowledge of LAMP server environments such as PHP, MySQL, and other open-source technologies
  • Knowledge of website accessibility standards and guidelines WCAG and section 508
  • Experience working in a higher education or agency setting
