Position Summary:
Performs research activities and analysis; implements and evaluates research procedures and data. Records observations and measurements, then reports results. Responsible for analyzing and preparing results for publication. Works under general supervision with a certain degree of creativity and latitude. May supervise junior research personnel.
Duties may include:
  • Providing technical support in planning and/or designing of scientific projects, studies, or applications
  • Planning and conducting research and analysis of scientific data
  • Interpreting test results and comparing them with determined standards and limits
  • Identifying and evaluating scientific samples and determining the need for further testing
  • Developing recommendations and/or providing solutions, standards, and protocols to a wide range of difficult problems
  • Planning, designing, developing, monitoring, and/or evaluating portions of a scientific project, study, or application
  • Providing scientific evaluations/assessments
  • Researching, implementing, standardizing, and evaluating new procedures
  • Maintaining detailed records of results and preparing written reports acceptable to the Principal Investigator and funding agencies
  • Other duties as assigned


Minimum Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree in nutrition, food science, chemistry, biology, physiology, animal science, dairy science or veterinary science
  • Two years of post-bachelors research experience related to the domain of this position


Preferred Qualifications:
  • Master’s degree in nutrition, food science, chemistry, biology, physiology, animal science, dairy science, veterinary science, or closely related scientific degree.
  • Experience with organizational and time management skills.
  • Experience keeping research data records and summarizing research data.
  • Experience developing and delivering scientific presentations.
  • Experience with good communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Experience having a strong work ethic
  • Experience conducting controlled experiments.
  • Experience managing data to the final report form, either abstract or manuscript.
  • Willingness and ability to work with human subjects and research animals.
  • Willingness and ability to coordinate duties among more than one supervisor.
  • Experience conducting human studies.
  • Experience conducting animal studies.
  • Experience with basic competence in statistical approaches.
  • Experience writing manuscripts for peer-reviewed publications.


Physical Requirements & Working Conditions:
  • Ability to lift, carry and/or otherwise move heavy materials weighing up to 40 pounds.
  • May be required to work with toxic, volatile, and corrosive chemicals and/or carcinogenic substances.
  • May be required to work in adverse environmental conditions.
