Job Description

The Materials Research Center (MRC) at the Missouri University of Science and Technology (Missouri S&T) is seeking applicants for a non-academic, full time Senior Research Specialist to operate, manage, support, and conduct research in the area of materials characterization. Primary responsibilities will be training and the operation of an Xradia Versa 620 microCT, a Hysitron TI 980 nanoindenter, and a Horiba GD-OES Profiler. Other instruments such as those for thermal analysis, x-ray diffraction, microstructure analysis, and others would be secondary responsibilities. This position reports to the Director of the MRC.

Specific duties include operation of an Xradia Versa 620 microCT, Horiba GD-OES profiler, and a Hysitron TI 980 nanoindenter, providing training and instructions to users as well as providing routine maintenance and calibration. Work with student and faculty researchers to develop new methods of materials characterization. Conduct demonstrations of the equipment to visiting classes or external groups. Give presentations covering the capabilities and novel techniques to campus and professional societies.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree and at least 2 years of experience from which comparable knowledge and skills can be acquired is necessary.

Preferred Qualifications

• Master’s degree with emphasis in an appropriate area of science
• PhD with emphasis in an appropriate area of science
• 3-5 years experience in materials characterization and/or image processing
