Essential functions (job duties):

JOB PURPOSE
Under the direction of the Principal Investigator, provide scientific and technical assistance to
complete laboratory based, clinical or population science research. May assist in writing research protocols and in manuscript preparation. Design and perform research protocols independently or as directed through training in more difficult or specialized procedures to meet the needs of the research protocol.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Perform laboratory based scientific techniques or clinical/population science (human subjects) research. Design and perform experiments, recruit participants for studies by developing surveys and interviewing candidates. Participate in implementing research objectives, ensuring compliance with all legal, regulatory and protocol guidelines. Assist staff with experiments /research protocols as required. Communicate with principal investigator and Postdoctoral scholars/fellows on the status of research.

Collect and log laboratory results, clinical outcomes and/or survey data. Evaluate and perform data analysis using graphs, charts or tables to highlight the key points of the research results collected in accordance with the research protocols as stipulated. Proofread and edit research data and documents to ensure accuracy.

Prepare and present presentations regarding research results for professional, scientific and academic conferences. Summarize and organize data results for submittal to academic and scholarly, peer-reviewed journals. Write scientific manuscripts and other documents for publication. Fact-check, proofread, and edit research documents to ensure accuracy.

Maintain the laboratory work areas including routine maintenance on laboratory equipment as required. Order and organize required research supplies and records. Maintain cleanliness and organization of work station.

Perform other related duties as assigned.

The Espinosa-Diez Laboratory at the Center for Molecular Medicine and Genetics, located at Wayne State University in Detroit, MI, is seeking a dedicated and motivated Research Associate to join our team. Our work focuses on the fascinating intersection of non-coding RNA biology, microvascular remodeling, and cancer-induced vascular toxicity. As a Research Associate / Lab Manager, you will be instrumental in establishing our lab and contributing to a vibrant and team-oriented environment. This is an incredible opportunity for a motivated individual with 3 or more years of research experience to make a significant impact in vascular research. Assist in the establishment and organization of our laboratory, including controlling supply sourcing, ordering, and communicating with vendors ensuring efficient and effective day-to-day operations. · Manage and maintain the laboratory's mouse colony, including breeding, genotyping, and maintaining comprehensive records. · Provide guidance and support to junior lab members, assisting in training and mentoring on experimental techniques, protocols, and safety procedures. · Assist in the optimization and execution of experiments related to non-coding RNA reprogramming and vascular disease. · Conduct experiments on cells and tissues using molecular and cellular techniques, contributing to our understanding of vascular disease. · Collaborate closely with the Principal Investigator and lab members in data collection, organization, and analysis, ensuring accuracy and adherence to established protocols. · Foster a safety culture and ensure compliance with laboratory safety protocols, including proper waste disposal and equipment maintenance. · Foster a collaborative and inclusive environment, promoting teamwork, diversity, inclusion, and respectful communication within the lab.

Qualifications:

Education: Bachelor's degree
Bachelor’s degree in a related field of study, preferred. Requires advanced knowledge, predominantly intellectual in character, in a field of science or learning acquired by a prolonged course of specialized intellectual instruction.

Experience: Experienced (minimum 2 years of job-related experience)
Experience performing basic research techniques, preferred.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Ability to work independently. Ability to analyze, summarize and interpret research findings in reports and communicate results. Knowledge of scientific integrity principles. Excellent time management and organization skills. Excellent interpersonal skills and demonstrated ability to work with others in a collaborative environment. Microsoft office software skills.

Preferred qualifications:

3-5 years of experience in a research setting, preferred · Deep understanding of molecular biology, cell biology, and genetics, enabling groundbreaking discoveries in vascular research. · Proficiency in a wide range of laboratory techniques, including cell culture, PCR, RNA/DNA extraction, qPCR, Immunofluorescence, and Western blotting. · Experience in mouse handling, genotyping, and experimental procedures involving animal models, adhering to ethical standards. · Organizational abilities to contribute to the efficient management of a dynamic laboratory. · Good communication and interpersonal skills, fostering effective collaboration and mentorship within the lab. · Passion for scientific research and commitment to advancing knowledge in vascular biology. · Appreciation for diversity, inclusion, and a respectful work environment.
