Job Details

The Dempsey College of Liberal and Performing Arts at Southern Arkansas University invites applicants for a non-tenure track Instructor of Design/Theatre Tech. Housed in the Department of Performing Arts and Mass Communication, the Theatre program offers B.F.A. degrees in Performance with emphases in the Theatre and Musical Theatre. Southern Arkansas University is the fastest-growing university in Arkansas and is located in Magnolia in the southwestern part of the state. This position begins in August 2023.

Duties: Teach design/tech courses at the introductory and advanced levels and other courses based on applicant’s area(s) of specialty; oversee the design and execution of the technical elements for departmental productions; supervise student technical workers in shop and production technical rehearsals; take part in the season planning process; attend scholarship auditions and departmental meetings and other duties as assigned.                                                                                                           

Qualifications: B.F.A. in Technical Theatre and extensive design and/or production credits at the academic and/or professional levels required; MFA or equivalent terminal degree in Theatre Design and/or Theatre Production preferred; two or more years of collegiate-level teaching preferred; demonstrated skill and evidence as a scenic designer and technical director preferred; professional and academic memberships or certifications preferred.
